Kill Reports

Ok, this is probably silly but could someone explain for me the arguments for/against adding the fit of the agressing ship(s) to kill reports? I always read them and think "Oh look at all those faction mods, that dude was asking to get ganked," but just as frequently I wonder about the fit of the ship that ganked that player.

And I am left wondering.

We show everyone what doesn't work. Why don't we show ppl what does?

Wouldn't it be benenficial for parties interested in pvp to not only learn which fits fail but which also work? If a player on the fence over engaging in pvp saw a kill like (i cant link a kill report even in features and ideas sadly) and thought to himself, wow, that little ole' t1 frigate took out that Oracle solo...I'd love to try that. But then never does because he doesn't know how to fit a ship properly, wouldn't this info be helpful? A simple change could potentially motivate risk-averse players into being more proactive content creators.

[This actually just happened in a npc corp chat. A player took down an Oracle with a thrasher after being out of game (supposedly for 6 mos. and just resubbed 3 hrs ago,) shared the kill, and a few pubbies were begging him for his fit. I thought it was odd that they had to beg for the most useful info regarding that kill and decided to write to find out why as this makes no sense to me.]

Unless publishing the loser's fit is meant to serve as some sort of punishment or public humiliation, I'm just wondering why the fit of the victor isn't also shared publicly on kill reports. Isn't it counterintuitive that on any kill report you can save the fit of the ship that lost with a handy button, but you can't even see the fit of the ship that won the engagement?

Wouldn't that be more useful?

As with all things in EVE though, I'm sure there are technical, strategical, or even philosophical arguments for/against such a thing.

I'm just wondering what those might be and why this is a bad idea.

Thanks in advance.

I think you're making a bit of a jump saying that it being marginally more convenient to see what fits people were using is going to make risk-averse people suddenly jump into PVP.

You can already find what fits people are using because people who kill stuff in a particular fit invariably die in that fit. Furthermore, showing the fit of the ship that killed you is free intel that I don't think is very well deserved.

I love your example, because it exemplifies the single biggest reason why this feature would not work the way you think it does. Literally any PVP destroyer could solo a tier 3 battlecruiser as long as it started close. Tier 3 battlecruisers cannot hit small targets. The $100 question here isn't "what fit did you use to kill a t3 BC", it's "How did you position yourself such that you got close enough to a t3 BC to get under its guns". The fit tells you nothing about that.

Kill reports are not public, they are private to the person who scored the final blow. They are only made public when the killer chooses to publicize it.

I was pretty sure "free intel" would come up as a reason why this was a bad idea, because even killboards don't publish the fits of the agressors - only the victims. And I readily admit that any fit could potentially be viable given the right situation. It's all relative. But doesn't that logic cut both ways? I dunno, it still seems counterintuitive to me that you can only view/save the fit of the ship that lost an engagement on a kill report.

Anyway, it's just something I was curious about. Thanks for the quick response.
