Question on Stacking Penalties

Hi all,

Just a quick question on stacking penalties - I've tried to google this but couldn't come across a clear answer to my question.

I'm flying a Nightmare with a Basilisk cap buddy, the nightmare has 3x tracking comps, and the basi is using 2x remote tracking computers. So:

The Nightmare Hull itself has a 7.5% tracking bonus per level
The 3 tracking computers on the NM are loaded with tracking speed scripts
The basilisk remote tracking comps are loaded with tracking speed scripts

I know the modules will be stacking penalized with themselves (ie the 3 comps will stack, and the 2 remotes stack with each other), but are there any other stacking penalties that will be applied?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. All modules, remote or local, that affect the same stat will be in the same stack. In this case, your local TCs and the tracking links will stack against one another.

This doesn't apply to the ship bonus; you get that at full force regardless of any modules used.

the local TCs and the tracking links are in the same stack. Rigs and tracking enhancers will also be in that same stack.

The ship bonus, tracking hardwirings, tracking penalty/bonus from t2 ammo, and drop booster effect are never on the penalized stack.

The first effect on the stack is unpenalized, with stacking penalties kicking in for every subsequent effect on the stack.

Those are actually the two clearest explanations of this mechanic I have ever read on these forums. Thank you both.

Awesome, thanks guys. Just to make sure I'm following: if I changed the script on either the remote or local TC's to optimal range as opposed to tracking speed, that would take them out of that particular stack, at which point they'd only be stacking with each other, correct?

Nice answers here.

Add to that: the stacking queue order is "highest effect first".
The classic example is that a Burst Aerator II rate of fire effect being higher than a faction damage mod's effect puts it in front of queue, unpenalized, for a good DPS increase even with 4 damage mods stacked against it.

Also, there can be exceptions (glitches):
E.G. drone scope rigs are not stacking penalized with omnidirectional tracking links, but are penalized with each other. This leads to a 3-omnidir 3-scope having two stack penalty queues of 3 effects rather than one queue of 6 mods, making the rigs quite favorable for some sniper fits.

It's more correct to say that attributes, not modules, stack.

If you haven't already seen it: http://wiki.eve-id.net/Stacking

You can use EFT (and pyFA, IIRC) to see what the effects of remote buffs/debuffs would be. You drag an effect/module from one ship to another ship's 'Projected Effects' area.
