Losing missiles in space

Hello,

Thought id see what the community thought of having missiles move onto the next target, my idea is:

Re-directing wasted volleys onto next target.

If you had another target locked and maybe painted or selected by another new module, then the missiles would redirect to the new target, providing that the old one was destroyed.

Not sure if this would be make missiles to good, to limit the awesomeness I would suggest:

The person kindly issueing the missiles would not be able to switch targets without turning module off (old) and on (new).

The changing of Targets would have to be due to ship exploding or leaving (warp drive etc)

The Missiles would need time to react, so within a certain distance to the old target the missiles would be wasted.

or

The next target would have to be marked / painted and possibly be the receipient of the next volley.

Only viable on guided missiles.

Negatives:

Too much for the server, more potential micro management, most of the time missiles wont have the range to turn and reach next target (except awesome cruise missiles). Probably make missiles to good, be lots of Raven fleets, launching tonnes of cruise missiles, knowing there DPS isnt going to be wasted.

So what you're saying is that if your target gets destroyed, your missile seeks out the nearest other hostile target, and damages that instead? Yea that sounds good. I'm all for making all missiles FOF missiles. :P

Or you could learn how to properly snipe with a CNR and not waste any volleys.

Better solution: use guns.

Never forget.

Aivo - not really FOF kinda going where the next missile is.

Nolak - Counting Volleys is ok, was more thinking pvp and ships popping! Unless you know some other way of sniping without wasting missiles, then please do explain 'how to play properly!!'

Antillie - Guns would be great, more looking at improving the guidance aspect of guidance missiles.

Batelle - Not a fan, dont blame you, doubt it will ever happen!

Interesting idea, would definitely make missiles unique. RHML's would be really interesting too.

The server load issue could be too much, and the benefit would be wasted on all but longest range missiles. Caldari and minmatar balance would be offset further through range bonus being really favorable. The revamp would have to be thorough, prehaps a different change could make missiles further unique with less hassle?

Well missiles following Target Painter makes sense, doesn't it?

Also make it like bomb, if you leave grid and missile is still flying, it will hit.

That's not necessary. You get a result something like that via the Flight Time mechanics already. A missile only ever gets X seconds of flight time, so if it has used 4 seconds to fly towards its original target, and is then re-assigned to a new target, it'll have X-4 seconds to reach it. If that's not enough then it can't reach the target.

Not really FoF missiles don't redirect from my experience. Used the new heavy missile BS sized launcher (forgot name of it) on my TFI the other night to play with on a lv3. Lets just say I usually sent enough missiles to blow everyone up twice over, there was a lot of wasted volleys. On the plus side those FoF missiles blew everything up nice and fast so it was constant fireworks while it was firing combined with the sentries.

To the OP, just count your volleys like the rest of the missile users do. Particularly the mission runners it's what they have been doing for years.

Well this would be pretty bad for pvp. Sometimes you are intentionally firing your missiles at ships that are about to be in range. Or perhaps even to just force ships to keep their range from you. I think the mechanic is fine as it is.
