Actually I've been in many big fights involving several hundred ships before and after drones have been deployed on field. And on both reinforced and non-reinforced nodes. The node actually holds up quite well with not much tidi...until the drones come out.

I would imagine that if you took drones out of the equation, the node could probably handle 4k or 5k pilots before tidi maxes out. Maybe even more.

While I have no doubts this would prompt even more massive fleets than we see today, I think it would take some time go get it to that point. Probably more than enough time for CCP to implement new mechanics.

Op is trying to fix the wrong problem

Remove the reward of larger numbers (hah)

Just too much of a drug to pig pile.

Therefore can't be fixed so we can either ignore it (popular choice) or make a bigger pig pile (I think I just threw up a little)

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Built by CCP

It worked fantastically in 6VDT.

.....now we just have to get PL and NC. to warn CCP the day before they drop 300 slows onto a TCU so we get this party going properly.

If we keep stealing the jita node for every timer fight that occurs on the weekend, the freighter pilots will hate us, you know

especially if the other side just blueballs ccp

The really sad thing is that CCP have been informed for most of the large fleets that have happened

It has been proposed before, but CCP should implement drone grouping. that is have the drones of your ship function as a single entity, as an option like with missiles, instead of multiple separate ones. The first time I saw the proposal was actually as a fix to drone AI problems, since the focus fire is unreliable against multiple targets engaging you and often splits your fire. If your drones could only have a single target, the issue could then at least be circumvented.

You seem to have misunderstood the concept of trolling. Look up Alavaria's profile and posting history, and then come back and look at the exchange again and at the suggestion and its consequences. Now consider what it means in the context of who's saying it.

I think the term you were looking for was “having a bit of a laugh”.

I think the term you were looking for was “having a bit of a laugh”.

I was making a comment on the outcry of Jita having I think 30% TiDi on the day of the 6vdt fight because we had that node assigned to the 6vdt system for the battle.

Thus I was poking fun at the idea of endlessly taking their node for every one of the many many important timers, any of which could easily (with fairly high probability) escalate into a massive capital/supercapital engagement.

Thus implying the jita "population" would not be amused at facing TiDi everyday for the ... months that a grinding sov war might entail.

Thus, CCP might prefer to just not bother. Especially if enough fights end with blueballs.*

Thus, nodecrashing on the fights that are not blueballs will continue.

*This is also playing around with the idea of "why is some stupid nullsec ihub armor timer causing MY JITA to have 30% tidi today, and yesterday it was a stupid nullsec station timer. the day before that it was another ihub armor timer"**

**This is the application of no fun allowed in a highsec context, by proxy, due to constantly stealing "their" Jita node for "a small portion of players" to not crash the node on any given timer that might escalate.***

***Because even with dynamic reinforcement, you still have to keep the system on that node, therefore if the system is to be on the jita node at the fight, it has to be on the jita node at startup, ie: from the previous downtime.

Just because I quoted that particular bit, don't assume that meant the entire context of the thread. Having a laugh is fine, constantly repeating yourself, is trolling. So i think MY understanding is correct, please dont confuse your understanding of trolling with mine.

Just give it a rest for a bit, you been at it all day, dont you have anything better to do? like go outside, see the world, interact with people in the real world rather than internet spaceships.

That was pretty daft of you, don't you think? Wouldn't it have been much better to quote the part you were responding to?

So why are you angry at me? Or are you still not fully familiar with the concept of trolling then.

What I'm doing is collecting the unanswered questions, unfounded assertions, contradictory and inconsistent goals, and then reminding him of the parts he's desperately trying to avoid answering in his copy-paste trolling. You'll notice that, unlike him, I actually respond to his posts — the list of outstanding issues is just that: a list of outstanding issues that he needs to address if he doesn't want to be tossed out on his ears for being a troll.

I agree, that would be awful, because I rather enjoy employing words in their correct context and meaning.

Now, do you have anything to actually add to the topic at hand, or are you just going to take up the trolling baton now that the OP has given up, only you'll do it with irrelevant ad hominems rather than a failed copy-paste red herring tactic?

The tears would amuse us

However, CCP would tire of it after the 100th big fight that took up the Jita node for the entire day. Thus it cannot be a permanent fix.

I also note that if they assign the Jita node to system AB, but then the fight occurs in a different timer in system XY, the node for system XY will crash. And Jita will be of course in TiDi for that whole day.

I don't remember reading that Jita is anything other than a perma-reinforced node, so would it really matter? Or have they actually given it some special jungle juice to outperform normal reinforced nodes?

EDIT: It is a special server that runs 4 nodes, I think. See below.

Please take alook at this article: http://themittani.com/features/behind-scenes-6vdt-ccp-veritas?page=0%2C1

for some details about Jita server

Quote:
TMC: So before the fight, CCP Explorer mentioned [on Twitter] that you were using the Jita server. Can you go into more details? I'm sure we have some very tech oriented readers who would love to know the details.

CCP Veritas: Sure! We have one server blade, one machine, in the Tranquility cluster that is head and shoulders above everything else we have in there. It's specialty hardware, which I don't remember the number of cores off the top of my head, but it's, at the end of the day, four cores because we turn most of the cores off to act as heat spreaders for the cores that are on so they can run faster, if that makes sense?

It doesn't discuss why Jita hit TiDi that day unlike other days if it was apparently still running on a core, but it was observed and commented on. I would imagine it may have been necessary to reduce the speed of the core running the Jita system process because the other three (especially the one running the 6vdt system process) were going at max output.

Yeah. CCP has some fancy stuff, indeed.

It would be amusing to see if a proper fight that had supers and stuff would somehow be even more stressful than 6VDT was. For example, it would have a lot more drones.

Drones might be overplayed as a cause, here. We commonly see non-reinforced nodes look for a rope to hang themselves on when a SC blob throws them out, but in fights like 6VDT pretty much everyone was flying drones, and it worked out well enough.

It didn't help server performance any that I had to launch my drones 5 times, one at a time, as some insurance against DBRB bombing them and losing my whore-drone ability (a tactic that failed, 5 wasn't enough to save me from DBRB's KEEP BOMBING BOYS whilst being distracted by Ravioli gate, but I digress).

The servers always seem most strained when people induce session timers (bad enough that 2 fleets logging in after a jabber ping would spike a node for half an hour to 10% tidi), so it will be fascinating to see what the lauded "brain in a box" will be able to do.

"Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." -Soviet infantry manual,

The focus on drones is fairly easy to understand though.

On the one hand, they're an obvious stuff-on-the-grid multiplier that is already on everyone's minds after a year of ever increasing drone assist popularity. This makes them an intuitive culprit for increased problems as fleets grow bigger.

On the other hand, drones remind of two lag fixes in the past that were rather successful: linked weapons and missile set-up improvements. As was the case with missiles, one of the issues with drones is that they're in-space objects that need to be set up and tracked individually and thus start to create all kinds of exponential interaction effects for the simulation. They also mean we have five (or so, on average — more for carriers but less for special-purpose ships) more guns that keep firing, which means they're not taking advantage of the increased efficiency of having linked weapon firing.

So even if it's not the silver bullet, it certainly feels like an area that could do with some serious optimisation and which could draw on previous optimisation techniques for ideas on what needs to be done. It looks “simple” in other words — if not exactly low-hanging fruit, then something you might only need a small:ish stepladder for.

BiB should help with the spikes that happen as people jump in, warp to grids, and explode, but something else will be needed for the kind of on-going effects of a prolonged fight. Granted, some of that might just be deferred “brain set-up” processing that continuously slow down the node, but that really comes down to what the source for the strain is.

Who was everyone, a few prophecies dropping 3 each before dying? Also that was the nice jita node :)

An SC is what 20? And an archon has tons and can use 10? But it might not faze the mighty jita node.
