Vengeance vs Retribution

I know this topic has probably been done to death, but I wanted an up-to-date comparison of the two.

Purely from a low sec small gang/solo PvP objective, how do the most popular fits for these two stack up?

This will be my first experience with assault frigates and PvP in general, is one substantially easier to use?

Maybe just an in-depth list of pros and cons for each, from people experienced with them, would be ideal.

I am personally more interested in the vengeance right now, but the retribution seems to be preferred.

Retribution can't/shouldn't solo. Awesome in gangs/fleets, near useless alone.

Vengeance can field a fantastic buffer tank and has enough mids for tackle/ewar, but even after the rocket buff, the DPS is a bit low.

I prefer the Retribution because Scorch, but ymmv.

Both are good.

Tanks
5 factors - buffer active sig resist and speed
Buffer - both have good base hp and good slot layout for buffer increases.
Active - vengeance wins this hands down, non cap using weapons, cap bonus hull and ability to run cap injector.
Sig - both are fantastic here with an AB able to avoid large amounts of incoming dps.
Resist - both superb. Vengeance has natural bonus whereas retribution has extra low slot so both can have great resist when combined with t2 amarrian.
Speed - both quite bad retribution can be ok with mwd and nano.

DPS
3 factors - raw damage projection and application
Raw damage - retribution wins this slightly neither are stellar.
Projection - retribution wins this easily with scorch pulse or beams, tho beams are bad.
Application - vengeance has great this but being rockets it is to be expected, for a gunship retribution is solid due to large tracking bonus.

Meta
Many factors, here are a few.
Op said small gang lowsec. Vengeance is great at baiting single ships as dual rep or multiple as buffer/sig. It is also solid heavy tackle.
Retribution has solid tank and fantastic projection so if your just there to kill stuff in your gang retribution is best IMO.

Much more to both ships than I care to type on my phone.

I have over 100 solo kills in my retribution!

If you want mobility and dps retribution is the ship for you
if you want crazy tank veng!

I think you will find that the Hawk is a shield Vengeance .

I like both for different reasons, but in the end the vengeance is out right better, more fun to fly, and looks at least 15% sexier.
