Mining vs reprocessing

I am wondering if CCP has any stats the amount of minerals added to the game based on mining vs reprocessing.

I know the reprocessing will be hard because of the items being made by people from minerals mined, but if there is any way to separate the modules reprocessed that was loot vs refined ore. Idealy i would like to see if more minerals are generated from loot vs mining. I know mining should have a far stretch, but something tells me a good and large portion is from reprocessing loot.

In the past perhaps, but I doubt CCP would have changed the drop rates from rats recently without trying to make sure reprocessing wasn't the major source of minerals.

I'm not sure I they ever posted a dev blog about it but that's where I would look for the numbers/graph.

They've made several adjustments to drop rates over the years, and they occasionally release statistics in such dev blogs to examine the affect, or to justify the change before they make it.

not to mention meta 0 loot no longer drops, only named mods meta 1 and higher. so the loot modules can not be manufactured, and like wise the meta o modules that you manufacture no longer drop as loot. I believe it was a couple years since this was changed.

It is generally referred to as gun mining. This is when you run missions or go ratting, and just reprocess the loot rather than selling it. although it is generally only the meta 3 and higher that are even worth selling. A few years ago this was a major problem. not only through loot dropped modules being reprocessed, but drone alloys used to drop from rogue drones that would refine into large amounts of minerals. At that time it was said that a significant amount of the minerals in game were coming from gun mining, although I do not recall the percentage, I think it was around 60%.

At that time a high sec miner was doing good to make 10 mil an hour. miners cried that the majority of minerals should come from mining, not loot drops, and it was unfair for miners to have to compete with mission runners selling loot to establish mineral prices. At that time drone alloys were all but removed from the game, I believe some structures still drop them, but drone rats no longer do. Also meta 0 loot which was very common was removed. This change removed the lions share of the minerals produced by gun mining. Now most minerals come from mining, the amount generated through gun mining is now down around 10%.

Gun mining is still very profitable. Belt rats drop significant quantities of loot, most of which is worth more as minerals than as an item. Even things that on the surface are worth a lot of isk like 1600mm Rolled Tungsten Alloy Armor Plates are worth more as minerals in some markets.

Moral of the story is that having a perfect refining alt with awesome standings is a very good idea.

Gun mining is now very good with the introduction of the mobile tractor. Drop it at start of mission/anom and come back later with a salvage fit Noctis. I suspect the 10% figure from gun mining will now rise up significantly.

Somewhere in @CCP_Diagoras' twitter feed are apparently hidden these gems from early 2012 (before drone alloys were removed), percentages are refined/reprocessed (i.e.: ore / loot & drone poo)

  • Tritanium 40% 60%
  • Pyerite 40% 60%
  • Mexallon 43% 57%
  • Isogen 40% 60%
  • Nocxium 32% 68%
  • Zydrine 58% 42%
  • Megacyte 60% 40%

At some point in time I recall a devblog or devpost or something with polar plots showing the relative amounts of mined vs loot vs alloys. Might have been in one of the later QENs or something.

Since those figures were released we've had drone poo removed. Those figures were after a significant amount of NPC loot was replaced with metal scraps.
