search or better find items in boxes

I often have the problem to find something, which i accidently dropped in one of my hundreds of boxes inside my hangar, by drag and drop.
There is a nice search box on the upper right, but it doesnt search inside boxes.

So how do you find your one valuable item without looking all thousands of boxes ?
How do you find that remotely if you are even in a different station ?

Thanks for the link.

So i need an external tool to find an item in eve ?

That obviously would be one the little things i want to be fixed. Because a search function which cant find items in boxes is not very useful.

Or EveHQ, which does about 1,000 useful things including finding assets in containers and ship cargo holds....

Welcome to Eve, you must be new.

After I've learned to embrace the fact, that you need 3rd party tools to properly play this game, it actually added to the gaming experience. Try to look at it from this angle.

Honestly, I don't know what kind of resources are required to perform those searches, but I would rather not reduce game response to do those searches. Third-party software has a couple of advantages - it does not actually drag on the servers, but it also tends to have 'competitors' that develop really good stuff and don't have to worry about deadlines for the next expansion, etc.

And some add so much to New Eden, imagine an Eve without eve-kill.org, evemaps.dotlan.net or Evemon. It's kinda like UI addons in other mmos but on a higher level. I love it.

There are rumors that the asset search window may eventually search within containers (soon? anyone have a link?) - but for now it doesn't, so you're stuck using external tools.

Wonder if that is on Sisi yet?

Winter Summary thread mentions it (post #3, client change #26).

That's how I found it, actually.
