A couple of questions on Invention

Invention is one of the things I've always wanted to get involved with so I've had a read on the Evelopedia page for Invention and I've almost finished getting all my encryption / physics / engineering / starship engineering skills at IV, just have a couple of days to go now to finish the last one.

At the moment I've just started with some cheaper modules so I can make some mistakes and not worry about cost.

I have a couple of questions that I can't see the answer to and I'm probably just missing the obvious.

How do I know how many runs I may get on a T2 BPC or is it random? E.g. I was inventing Hobgoblin II and I got several BPC with 6, 6, and 10 runs.

How do I know how long it's going to take to run an invention job, e.g. I ran some Garde invention jobs and they were taking 2.5 hrs IIRC, I would assume that more complex items, say a JF or Marauder would take a lot longer, where would I find out how long it takes for different things?

At the moment I'm just using NPC station facilities.

Thanks in advance for any help or pointers to resources or guides.

The number of runs on a T2 BPC depends on the number of runs of the T1 BPC it was invented from. This number is further modified by decryptors, which are mostly used for ships and rigs. Basic rule of thumb is using max run BPCs for modules, drones and ammo for invention. For ships and rigs, most people use 1-run BPCs, as the time to copy them is lower and it doesn't make a difference in the number of total runs of the T2 BPC.
How to determine the invention time is a good question, this information doesn't seem to be included. EVE ISK per Hour does list this, as well as the results of invention using different decryptors. Might be worth a look, if you plan to stick to invention for longer. A good way to determine, if it's worth inventing a specific BPC.

Just go to https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Invention

The generally accepted formula for determining output runs (except ships and rigs) is as follows:

Invention Output Runs = MIN(MAX(ROUND_DOWN( (Input_T1_BPC_Runs / T1_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy) * (T2_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy / 10) + Decryptor_Runs_Bonus), 1), T2_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy)

Thank you both for the quick replies

For invention times, right click the BP, show info. Click on the Attributes tab. At the bottom you'll see "Research Tech Time", that's your invention time in a public lab. POS arrays have a 0.5 multiplier so they invent in that time/2

This isn't true any more. It's now:

Invention Output Runs = MIN(MAX(ROUND_DOWN( (Input_T1_BPC_Runs / T1_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy) * (T2_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy / 10) ), 1)+ Decryptor_Runs_Bonus, T2_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy)

Main difference is that you no longer need max run rigs and ships to get 1+decryptor run bonus.

Single runs work fine.

Woo! CSM XI!
