I think, in honour of the passing of Iain M Banks earlier this year, and just because it would be awesome to do, CCP should create an excession event (an 'out of context problem').

If you are not sure what that is check Banks' excellent book of the same name. It is a great read.

Not sure quite how you could manage it, but it would need to look like totally op and unimaginably powerful tech and should require the combined forces of the biggest alliances and coalitions to take it on.

Thoughts?

So CCP should create an event, that is a direct copy from another franchise and you can't even describe what it is about or how it should be done. You just say that it would be OP(which in general is an undesirable thing) and unimaginably powerful tech, that would require the larger coalitions to take on. How exactly would this be a good thing in any way, a desirable use of developer time or even possible in light of the minimal resources the event team seems to have at their disposal?

This all reads like you read a book you liked and want to commemorate the writers passing in some way, but even you don't really know how and didn't bother to think of a way it could be done in the game in any reasonable fashion. As it stands now the idea is a daydream, since it so vague and insubstantial it practically lacks all content. This needs to be fleshed out a lot more before it has even a minuscule chance of ever getting off the ground and becoming reality.

What about the everyman who isn't part of some huge nullsec coalition? Do we get to participate in this event too, or will we simply be slapped down due to even our most well fit and well flown ships being wholly insignificant?

Will it really just be goons who save New Eden from whatever?

Yeah, it is just an idea and a daydream. This is the ideas forum.

I am an ideas kinda guy, not a techo.

If it doesn't fly, whatever, just think it is a seed worth planting.


And yes, I would like every everyman to be involved. I am in RvB, not a nul sec coalition. Would love to see Mangala or Alphastarpilot lead a big ganked fleet out to challenge the truly unknown. Just like the idea of doing something to challenge some of the dominant paradigms that seem to be becoming a little too stable.

And yes. I did like the book. Good chance you will too.

Why don't you challenge some of the dominant paradigms and just attack one of the 0.0 alliances yourself?
