Removing logging off ability for capitals.

You can log off a pilot in a capital and then the ship is invulnerable and invisible. Would it not be better if the ship stayed in space as a mobile depot, with 24 or 48 hour reinforced mode if shield it taken to 25%? Then you can find them, reset their shields, and force a confrontation (maybe it comes out of reinforced with X minute cooldown for jump-drive). Maybe all capitals should have this feature, and no longer be able to dock at all.
Password to enter pilot seat. People with sufficient standing can still refit from non-piloted carriers and can transfer to none-piloted titan clone vat bays etc.

What do you think?

First suggested this in this post. Though someone else must have suggested it before.

People should not have to find someone to babysit their capitals any time they decide they want to go on vacation, plus the only people this really hurts are the smaller guys.

I think you should try flying capitals before you suggest making them virtually unusable.

Explain how they would be virtually unusable.

Astroniomix, explain how it really hurts smaller guys. I am sure we could make a system that allows for vacations without having to suddenly go defend a capital.

No , as this will bring more harm than good

Small groups will have a hard time keeping their capitals alive , if the owner logs off , but bigger alliances would not have any problems keeping their caps alive .

also if this feature really worked i am sure that pilots will stay logged and keep their capitals cloaked , this will overload the server as all the capital pilots will keep logged while doing nothing at all .

I am a cap pilot. With your system, I must now either log off in my caps, which means I must train alts into them as well since I use Dani all over the place, or I'm going to lose billions every time I go to work. Or out. Or sleep. People will probe out and kill the things for fun.

Even with an RF timer, people will probe them out and shoot them on the offchance the owner is at work/school/whatever. Using the caps quickly will be impossible, as they'll always be RFed. Using them in a hot region will be impossible for the same reason. Selling them will become a hundred times harder, and I won't even be able to reprocess them to build a bunch of rifters.


As for why it hurts the smaller guys, who do you think is going to be able to watch their cap staging system better, a tiny lowsec group with a handful of carriers, or a 30,000 man coalition with thousands of caps?

And if you make a vacation system, can you guess what 90% of caps will do?



And seriously, fly one before you propose ruining them.

How would larger alliances have less problems keeping their capitals alive? The large alliances would be resetting each other's caps, after all. And getting in fights over them.

This is not a catch-up mechanism for small alliances like racing games has. Its a way for the leaders to send each other off the track.

What if the capitals could be put inside POS shields?

They did make a system that works just fine. its the one we have now.

Caps are tools, and i shouldnt have to leave it laying around while i go AFK for a week because you and your buddies are not good enough to kill them while i actually play the game.

I actually totally agree with you. But certain people wish the big alliances can kill each other's capitals faster. I am just flinging spaghetti to the wall.

What certain people wish big alliances could kill each others capitals faster? also how is making that conflict now offline conflict adding any value to the game?

This is just outright a terrible idea.

do us a favor stop flinging spaghetti at a wall. Sure one in a million you might splatter a masterpiece, but we don't want to deal with the mess in the mean time

1. you are assuming a safe pos is up.

2. pos' can be popped. I know last tour in 0.0 on roadtrips when I logged anything in a staging/safe pos in enemy space I asked on mirc/voice comms about the status of that pos area before I logged into game a day or so later. Logging into a popped pos area camped by the enemy waiting to kill logins generally not a good idea.

I think what one should ask is whether a capital is a personal or alliance asset?

If your in nullsec, they get handed out like candy so technically they are yours but the funding is from the alliance so not entirely.

If its the the players asset, they are responsible for its safety and its not really fair to leave it vulnerable like that.

If its the the alliances asset, they are responsible for its safety and it may be appropriate to let them handle offline defenses.

They WOULD NOT warp off a million kilometer from where you log off with this idea. Why did you assume that?

Zan Shiro, POS's can be popped? Didn't realize :P That's the point isn't it? So nothing is safe? Every day we see someone that wants to somehow make high-sec less safe, what about null-sec?

Perhaps we should divide the existing capitals into capitals of both types. For personal use and for corp/alliance use. Then make capitals of personal use akin to normal subcaps are now. And make alliance/corp capitals assets that has to be protected by the corp/alliance as a whole.

carriers are the backbone of effectively living in nullsec space. forget theyre combat capabilities but kjust their personal logistic and versatility. That would make it an enormously painful hassle to live anywhere dangerous. The only situations i see this affecting is random capitals logging off in unsecured space (most supers sleep in towers) so i'm gonna have to say no to this idea. It doesnt really solve any problems for anyone.

Just allow them to dock. Carriers and Dreadnoughts can already. Problem solved.

Remove Titans from the game, make Station models 3x larger than they are now and allow Supercarriers to dock.

Maybe it would be easier for people to give up the real world and live in EVE online. That way, they can stay logged in all day, everyday. ;)

If one set of ships is denied this ability, why not all? There is no reason your Imperial Navy Slicer should be any more safe logging off in space than a Capital if that mobile depot that can fit in your cargo hold sticks around.

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.

i forgot to touch on this, but even more example you've never actually flown a capital and have 0 idea what you're talking about when suggesting a change to the game. You want to make it so cap pilots of all types are forced to only fly that ship. It's bad enough for super and titan pilots, but you want normal cap pilots to be limited to one ship as well.



what if i want to take a week off? what if i want to go live in hisec again? can't do either with this mechanic
