Why do they bother you so much? They're just random people in a video game...

The players of this game eternally crack me up.

People talk like big shot tough guys in a geek computer game... is that not beyond ironic?

People always talking about how much isk they have, how uber at pvp they are with almost no kills on their profile (it's always their main who has the kills... right?), how uber at ganking they are (that's so difficult isn't it?), how fail everyone else is...

examples:
1. i frequent a public channel where this one guy talks on and on every night about how awesome he is for flying super-super-super pimp ships with 3.5 billion dollar fits and how uber of an incursion jockey he is. all night, every night, like this is the measure of a person.

2. i had a cup of coffee in a fail null alliance and while his home station was being camped and everyone was cowering in the station this dork would be in comms and corp channel complaining that "I can't ever find any targets. Everyone is afraid of me in local"... all the while his alliance home constellation is being curbstomped 24x7 by some NPC null sec dorks for weeks on end.

3. Peeps go on and on about how they "finish 10 lowsec level 5's per hour" - hey stupid, that's 1 turnin every 6 minutes - or "I do Enemies Abound final pocket in a dramiel, you're doing it wrong" or just pure nonsense idiocy and act all tough.

What is about Eve - essentially a geek mode game - that makes people try to behave like super tough and/or super smart people?

It's a game. Acting all tough guy seems pretty stupid.

The ones I like best are those who make massive sweeping generalisations from a few unsourced anecdotal data points.

About the same as arm-chair one to be honest. They all follow books written by someone else. They got their own equation what is "normal" and what is not.

Look at it this way, few centuries ago slavery was considered normal. Freeing slaves was considered as some serious mental illness.

**** changes. People stays the same. Always follows what someone with power declare normal.

That behaviour occurs in every game, it's just not as obvious maybe because in Eve people tend to post more on forums than actually play the gameLol

Also, people in Eve feel more 1337 because it is supposed to be the hardest and most complex MMO

Low self esteem, low class, low life, undereducated, not very smart.

Stop wondering about that.

Start wondering about why people like them actually exist.

Lack of eugenics.
"If we believe in evolution then why do we make such an effort to keep the dim and feeble not only alive but breeding too?"

If I had a quid for every guy I have seen claiming they are in the army or used to be in it, I would be rich. I would be filthy rich if I got five pounds for everyone of them claiming to be in the marines or special forces. Big smile

P.S. I don't believe any of them, no matter their knowledge.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

Well, someone has to keep the waffle population under control, and no offense, but the world doesn't seem to be doing a good job without me!

Also, to OP, idiots are everywhere, take advantage of the ability to block them and spend your energies on people whose company you actually enjoy

Sadly enough, this is quite right.
Less natural evolution, more and more human stupidity.
Less living in consensus with natural laws, more and more human stupidity.

Not talking about sick people here,
but about people who are so dumb that they "need protection"
and everybody else has to suffer for it.

Like those 500 people who yearly die EU-wide because of cigarette burns, (like ... falling asleep with a cigarette)
and now all the millions and millions of smokers have to suffer for it through LIPP,
which makes it even worse for the health.

It makes no sense and those 500 are just a bad excuse.
Hypocrites everywhere "up there".

That being said, it's really easy to manipulate most people who behave like this.

And i mean REALLY easy, once you know how to do it.

Just experiment. :)

I once said in an new player corp chat room that my main regulary griefs players by holding them to ransom.

When I'm in a different system...using a remote doomsday module...that was taken from a pirate...years before the module was removed from the game....that gives 1000000 hit points across all damage types...

Don't blame the BS, blame the people who believe it.
