I know this is a horribly general question but....

Roughly what kind of dps do lvl 4 secrurity missions dish out?

between 0 and ~5000dps, depending on the mission and how bad you screw up.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Check the mission guides. Players often post what they used and you should get an idea. Generally if you have round a 600dps tank you will be fine. If of course you mess it up.. well then you space dust.

its all about managing the aggro.

Hit the gate wrong in the last room of worlds collide and get full room agro and a triple rep rattlesnake being fed capacity might not be enough :)

I'm pretty sure if your rattlesnake has three reps on it you're doing it wrong, no matter what the situation. Big smile

If you deal 1000 dps yourself, then you can do most missions with 350 (racial) tank on a battleship. Your buffer may get eaten into periodically but you bring the peak dps down so fast it doesn't matter much. Its only the epic arc missions where I find that much tank to be not enough.

A T2 cruiser that isn't webbed can actually avoid more damage through signature and speed tank than most battleships can rep (becomes patently obvious when doing the huge complex spawns in null).

Usually approx 400 dps.

However, if you screw up then a lot more. For example, I have lost a while ago a max skilled Tengu (with proper resists, no local tank) which had a max skilled Scimi shield boosting it full speed to NPC's in under a minute. Granted, Tengu buffer aint all that awesome ;) But that is still quite impressive dps (the Scimi reps would have been roughly equivalent to running 4x XL shield boosters locally on that Tengu).

Just one of these missions. Managed to drop 3 points before going down but had altogehter 6 points on me.

to name few of the more brutal ones if you screw up (1) Enemies Abound (2) World Collide. Also some others can get nasty, but usually not that nasty with that many points on you.

Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... THWONK! GOT the bastard.

Just to run them? Sure ~400 will get the job done.

To run them well? 700+ with good projection and application.

Some advice web/scram frigs are priority #1 if they are targeting you or you drew aggro from them. No exceptions. So outside of doing something stupid like getting stuck in a colidable you should be able to warp off safely if you take on too much DPS.

Beyond that read up on what your going to encounter and prepare appropriate resists and you be fine as long as you don't draw full room aggro and work it piece by piece.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

most of my battle ships tank around 300 dps, well I suppose with rep buffs and bastion mode that probably is closer to 400 now.

a tengu that tanks that much is tanking way more as said earlier. just moving a bit and having that small sig means it can take full room aggro in most missions as long as you are moving. my fits usually use a 10mn afterburner and a pithi booster, and then an omnitank as I don't want to get volleyed by a tornado with that gaping EM hole.

I used to use my ishtar and launch sentries, orbit at 3km, then go afk. with drone aggro now I don't do that anymore. but it tanked full room aggro pretty easily.
