[GRAPHIC] Damage textures, Wreck models

When you shoot at a wall in Counterstrike, you see the small hole the bullet caused. The same feature could be used to show the damage on eve ships (damage texture).

When a shot gets fully absorbed by the shield, the shield should flicker and absorb the shot.

When the shot goes to the armor, there should be a visual hole visible. These "hole texture" could get erased by the armor repair module.

When the shot goes to the hull, the shot should go visually into the ship, causing a smaller explosion and some ship parst to fly away which fade very fast. Fires could start maybe.

If a ship gets destroyed, it should use a demolished ship model as wreck model and slowly decay over time to the wreck model currently used. That would look better but not cause large battlefields to cause performance problems.

The server does not have to keep track of the damage textures. When you zoom in the first time to a ship the texture could be generated client side, depending on the current armor and hull state of the ship.

This should only be used when the client has enough free cpu time to render this. Otherwise the simple model could be used to not slow down large scale battles.

Awww, you better get a better PC then and support your economy, instead of keeping better graphics from those who can and want to enjoy them. How's that?

Regarding the topic: this was already "announced" in the Art Panel during Fanfest 2012. They have quite a nice video of a Rokh getting demolished. This is coming, hopefully soon-ish.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

There are options to turn down the graphics fortunately!

Graphics features like that can ben implemented to not impact performance. You would only need to show that level of detail at higher zoom levels, and the game could easily turn the feature off on the fly if it detected lag from the graphics card.

I think it is a great idea!

Would be nice if the resulting wreck after a ship popped somewhat resembled the former ship (kind of like the smashed stations you see in some missions).

Thats actually what I thought. The wreck should look like the original ship but wrecked.

Can we also have a Scottish voice screaming "She cannae take it any more Cap'n!" when the modules start overheating?

Embers Children is recruiting carefully selected pilots who like wormholes, green killboards and the sweet taste of tears. You can convo me in game or join the chat "TOHA Lounge".

Have you ever been in a massive null sec fight ?

You can have a 2k Dollar PC and it will still lag the **** out on high graphics and effects on (drones for example)

EvE online is a very ressource heavy game unless all you do is run LVL4s in Perimeter.

But taking your corp you seem to be some high sec dweller so I cant really blame you for your lack of knowledge.

as CCP is able to do that.
All Effects are still beeing processed even if you zoom out.
Even at a lower detail but still.
The second you are stupid enough to zoom in you can already press alt+f4 because **** freezes.

First CCP needs to work on their engine before implenting new **** nobody needs.

I'd prefer the Scottish voice to scream at me when I try to online a module and I don't have enough PG left to online it. You know: "I just cannae doo eet Cap'n! A just doont 'ave tha powah!"

You wouldn't see much since all the hits would be in the same place.

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

That is another problem which should be fixed too.

Many effects are not getting rendered at all when you zoom out far enough. Turrets for example are completely skipped. If your fps drops too much when so many ships are visible, then the level of detail should be reduced more by the engine.

What happens when you set your graphics settings manually to minimum in large scale fights? Do you still have bad fps?

I would like to supplement this by saying the scottish voice should be Karen Gillan, not James Doohan... :)

So, you're a bounty hunter. No, that ain't it at all. Then what are you? I'm a bounty hunter.
