Viviseciant watched as ship after ship came out of the wormhole gate. Nothing bigger than a cruiser, but still a significant mass with 4 of them visible. This was the only wormhole to open up in a week and she was ready to get back to The Sanctuary. New orders for the Sisters "Seekers" to focus on searching specific areas in high security space had her curious. It might be nice to talk to somebody she thought. Nice to see her family.
Vivi had been in the wormhole, w-space, for almost 26 days now. It was starting to wear her down. She hardly stayed in w-space for more than a week at a time, but this wormhole was rich. Every day she would start scanning down for a way out and a small gold mine would just scream at her. Going to work for the Sisters was not anything like what she thought when she signed the PS contract. Flying transports or running a frigate as an escort on relief runs for a year. Easy and safe, if boring isk. It was nice helping and getting paid to travel. A 22 year olds first time off planet without mom or dad? “Sign me up Sister!” she said. After that easy fun year of flying and partying in the background though came the “talk”. She had proven her loyalty and value to the Sisters of Eve. It was time for her to the skills they had taught her to contribu…blah blah BLAH!. Same old speech she got from her dad. Stop having fun and start working for the family. Pick a cause, stop drifting, same thing. Not gonna happen, she thought. Not yet. I am too young to get wrapped up into caring about your “cause”, she thought. Didn’t say that to the sister of course. Her mind changed quickly when the sister handed her the tech pad on the Stratios. Sleek lines, nice speed, versatile fit and some really amazing stats made it an excellent platform for what she was being asked to do. Scanning down sites and hacking into “dead” alien tech caches. So what if it helps them with this book thing they keep talking about. It looked fun so she accepted. They did fail to mention that every single thing that moves in w-space wants to kill you. She did suspect hostilities where possible when she saw the Stratios was designed to fit a Cover Ops II cloak. Took her a week of classes to get the technical crap installed in the soft tissue. "Risk vs Reward", she heard her father’s voice again. Indeed. Well she had risked enough. It was time for some reward.
She was not letting this gate out of her sight. It was time for her to leave. Besides, these people looked like they knew what they were doing. Her breathe caught as she saw the freighter come out of the gate cloak. That was A LOT of mass going through he way out, She glanced at the readout for her way out and saw collapse was now within hours, maybe even minutes. It was now or never. Scanning down a hole wasn't a problem but being hunted while doing it would be no fun. These people were claiming ownership. The danger factor of this w-space had just escalated dramatically. She knew she should to wait for them to warp off but if they had one more ship running tail come through that wormbole, she would be stuck here.
20km. Luck she thought. She would be at 50k if she had know people were jumping in. Aligning up she maxed thrusters and watched the range decrease. Too slow she thought. At 14k she saw the nose of her ship appear and uttered an explitive her mother would have sent her to her room for. Even at 22. Instant reaction from the Tengu and 2 Proteus convinced her it was past time to leave. The freighter loomed very large as she hit her microwarpdrive for max thrust. 8 seconds she thought. She saw another Tengu flash past her on the port as the acceleration kicked in. That was why her cloak broke. Bad timing gets good people killed.. 4 ships targeting her now. Getting close to a lock. 6k. LOCKED! She looked at the readout. 4 T3 cruisers 2 T2 cruisers and a freighter! Just the Tengu had her locked but the others were not far away. That's serious firepower. Her ship lurched as a web was applied. A cruiser traveling at 1600 m/s is tough to slow fast though. The Tengu fired but missed. She realized she was holding her breath as she hit the jump point. Her hand stung from hitting the jump button so hard.
The wormhole jumped out of view as she was thrown into the "Known Universe" or k space.
Pulling up her Navigation map she saw she had exited into Adar. A 0.8 system in Tash-Murkon. 29 jumps. She looks where the wormhole was and notices a Cheetah sitting almost 20k off. She smiles while she enters warp. Reward is better she thinks.
