It appears the Dominix is an incredibly good ship now. The bonuses make using this ship with sentry drones in large fleets a no brainer.

I'm going to make a bit of a random suggestion just to get people talking about it.

Would it be a good idea to switch the domix bonuses, which I believe are extremely powerful for fleets, with the federation navy Dominix.

This would add an additional cost to fielding a massive fleet of Dominix with bonkers range and tracking sentry drones.

Like I said. Just a suggestion to see how others feel.

No. Mostly because its only higher-SP players that can make use of the gun bonus. With its drone bonus, the current domi is much more friendly to newer players. Furthermore, the domi has a long history as a support or RR ship that doesn't sacrifice damage because of its drones. If you wanted to use the domi for that purpose today, you would much prefer that the cheaper hull have the drone bonus.

During the course of tiericide, fozzie/rise wanted to use navy ships as a way to preserve the old flavor of the pre-tiericide hulls. Thats why some navy ships look like super-versions of their t1 hulls, while others are significantly different, such as the dominix. Prior to tiericide, the old domi or its navy version both had double damage bonuses, and this was used by players to great effect with their uber-DPS expensive setups. They wanted to preserve this gameplay, and chose the navy domi because with its increased hp, fittings, and extra midslot, its way more able to use the double damage bonus than a t1 ship ever could.

Lastly, keep in mind that if the Navy Dominix was the one with the drone bonuses, that would just mean that sniper domi fleets would just be MORE powerful than they are now, because they would all have a boatload more HP and an extra fittings slot. The fact that they cost extra would be secondary (its not like it would be the first time that a faction BS was the core ship in a fleet doctrine).

Navy domi wins for raw dps and tank, I want that raw dps and tank.

So, no.

My point was that t1 Dominixs with their current bonuses offer insane damage plus damage projection plus damage application plus drone assist and a really good tank. All this for the cost of a t1 battleship.

Personally, I think the double drone bonus is far more powerful than a double damage bonus. I also don't think much would change with regards to the massivedominix blobs in null. The only difference would be that those sentry drones wouldn't be able to project silly dps to silly range with almost frigate size gun tracking.

If the bonuses were swapped then you would have to fork out for those abilities by using the navy hull.

I have been in this game a long time and gave feedback into battleship rebalancing which is actually what we have today.

Like I said. Damage plus projection plus application in my view is too much for a t1 hull. And before anyone says it. I'm in an alliance which uses the sentry domi fleets. ALOT!

It doesn't use missiles so it's safe.

Yes, the Dominix is now really powerful.
A lot of DPS at a long range without Ammunition.
And if you are engaged by small targets you can use small drones.
It is as if an Abaddon could refit small pulses with its bonuses during the fight to shoot frigates....
And an excellent tank!

So where is the problem?

In fact the problem is the other battleships that cannot have the same range without losing tank, dps or tracking.

errrrrm, no.

It is a user and abuser (me) of an overpowered ship who thinks seeing enourmous flets of sentry domi's and very little else should be cause for concern. Some of the problem is due to drone assist.

I used to use Drakes a lot. I even supported the nerfs to HML's because I knew HML was overpowered. Right now it's in a bad place but the Drake blobs were a sign of a problem

Right now this is the go to ship. It's cheap and extemely powerful.

So then nerf drone assist or remove it entirely. I believe one of the devs commented on how they sometimes wouldn't mind assisted drones having the lock time of their owner's ship.

It does. Its always been one of the best BS for your money though. Even before teiricide, when it was intended to have strictly less value, it was still considered a top-tier mission runner that could compete with tier2/tier3 and navy battleships for many activities. If you want to say its OP then perhaps you're right. However you specifically are trying to address the bonus issue, and I'm trying to say why switching them wouldn't be a good solution.

It is certainly more versatile and its useful in more cases than the gun bonus. The double drone bonus also requires less SP to use effectively. However, keep in mind that the navy dominix has an extra midslot that can easily fit a t2 omnilink for 2/3s of the effect of that bonus, on top of having superior stats elsewhere. Right now the domi and the navy domi are both very good with neither hull being superior in all situations. This is a pretty good state. If you switched the bonuses, you'd make the domi hull worse by giving it a bonus it can't make good use of, and you'd make the new navy domi pretty much superior in all situations, which is boring.

Furthermore the navy domi would be an even more OP fleet ship than the domi is now, because it would have the double drone bonus, plus extra hp and fittings, and an extra midslot. You'd be taking it from a powerful fleet ship that costs the same as other t1 BS, to a fleet ship that's head and shoulders above other BS and perhaps only accessible to the side with significantly more money. You can't use cost to justify taking an OP ship and making it even more OP.

Maybe the tracking specifically needs a look at, but the issue is drones and sentry drones in general. In addition to a balance pass, drones also need a UI and AI overhaul. And drone assist needs addressing. Drone tracking definitely needs an overhaul as well. Perhaps even drone control range needs to change. Switching the bonuses on one ship leaves all the big problems unaddressed, and is exactly the kind of band-aid solution that CCP should avoid.

Sentry domi fleets are extremely vulnerable to bombers and/or smartbombers. All it takes is a good warp in and 1 sacrificial lamb to wipe out hundreds of sentry drones. The domi can only field 3 sets, 2 if you reserve some space for light drones.

The problem is that fleets can now use mobile depots to refill their drone bays halfway through a roam.
