Hello fellow capsuleers. i have a little request. I am out of books to read and am looking to improve my reading experience.
This being Eve, i would expect that at least some of you reading this know some good sci-fi authors.

My reading background: starting off with Jack McDevitt then moving on to Iain Banks' Culture Novels and finally to Tony's Templar One novel and Peter Hamilton's Pandora's Star and Great North Road novels.

I have already received a recommendation for a book called Learning the World independent of the above information.

I hope some of you would be willing to recommend an author that would present a challenge, or at least serve as a step up fom the above authors I mentioned.

note: While i became invested in Peter Hamilton's novels, I care little for investigation-style plots. I was more interested in......everything else.

also I'm asking because i assume most people here are older and more experienced than I. I am what you people would call a "kid" despite my legal status.

thanks! \o/

Eon and Eternity are some of my favorites. The Forge of God and Anvil of Stars are a good set as well.

OP: If you've not read the Nights Dawn trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton, that's a nice set of books also (some refer to it as the "Reality Dysfunction" series)

Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" series is really good. A little bit of heavy reading but interesting.

John Ringo. You can tell you're reading a Ringo book as 1) hey have you heard of this cool Goth band called Cruxshadows?, 2) a major focus will be the creation and tribulations of a military organization/group/squad, 3) a character will start singing inappropriately, 4) a character will display seriously jarring, unbelievable behavior. (But at least he's not Devid Weber.)

But they're pretty good books. Take a look at Through the Looking Glass, March Upcountry, and Troy Rising. There Will Be Dragons has some super futuristic SF elements, but is basically fantasy. Under a Graveyard Sky somehow isn't terrible even though it's a zombie book, and it also has some pretty good SF elements in the vaccine production and analysis of the virus.

Prince Roger and Bravo Company of the Bronze Battalion FTW, the whole Empire of Man series is pretty good.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

You should also take a look at this thread.
While it covers movies and TV shows as well you should find some decent books there.

Neal Asher is favourite of mine, oddly enough. Brutal space opera at it's best, if you liked Banks you will most likely enjoy Asher. The Spatterjay series, containing one of my most favourite characters ever, Vrell, is a must - The Skinner, Voyage of the Sable Keech and finishing with Orbus.

Alastair Reynolds is brilliant - start with his book Revelation Space - very hard sci-fi, grand concepts and time-scales.

The power to cause pain is the only power that matters, the power to kill and destroy, because if you can't kill then you are always subject to those who can, and nothing and no one will ever save you.

I only read the Bible.

EVE is a game about spaceships and there's an enormous amount of work to do on the in-space gameplay before players (or developers) are ready to sacrifice it for a totally new type of gameplay - CCP Rise

I'd recommend Neal Asher as well. It's space opera, but it has kind of a fantasy world feel. Very colorful worlds, and lots of wry humor worked into the cartoony brutality. EVE players should read The Skinner just for the drones aerial combat scenes.
