Frankly, I think your balls are too large for you to have much of a career as a mission runner, OP. If you are having fun with it, then by all means, continue until it isn't fun for you anymore, but in the end I think you will find that missions are dull and repetetive, and suitable only for folks who are determined to play EVE as a single player game.

I get the sense that you would be better suited for a career that involves more aggressively going after other players, especially more experienced players. Maybe you should consider becoming a pirate, or (gasp!) a ninja.Big smile

Then I would pick a ninja. Because everybody knows ninjas are just awesome.

You can be a tackler for gang fights tomorrow if you want to. It's never to early to PvP in EVE! Just fly cheap and know that you'll be losing some ships.

anyway good game to all and cya in space

Protip - Don't announce that you have bling unless you want people to try for you.

Bling != Actual combat ability.

All the deadspace and officer mods in the game won't help you track a fast frigate, and certainly won't help you against a good counter-fit ship, which is extremely easy against mission runners.

For example - My Curse/neuting Legion would love to have a word with your shield fit PVE ship....

Unfortunately for the inexperienced mission runner it usually doenst work out that way.

More often then not, the mission runner is not set up for pvp. Whereas the ninja salvager is not. The ninja salvager wants you to shoot at him because he is ready. Either he believes he can take you in the ship he is in or he has logi nearby or he feels he can swap ships before you are able to loot and get out.

All in all, its best just to ignore them. Besides you make more isk/hr by powering through the missions and leaving the salvage alone - its just not worth all that much.

I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

Most entertaining thread all day. Props(?) to the op for figuring out how to make a ship go boom. Whose ship it is is up for debate, but something will pop if you do that. Also props for having the balls to announce that you run with deadspace mods on the forums. Can you be on tomorrow between 1:00 and 6:00 eve time? It would be cool if you could be part of psychotic monk's charity drive!

Without wading into it, your idea is a unique one and good solution congrats.

As far as ninja looting - most people aren't there for your 600k loot - they are looking to pull you into a fight, warp off and then come back in a ship that will nuke you in oblivion. Also a stealth ninja looter at the sight of a large scale fight or in C3+ wormhole space is far more profit than running level 4s (I like to call it pacifist piracy).

As for your shield booster comment, you already can see what stuff like that gets you - and to add my two cents, a booster doesn't work when your cap is nueted to nothing. And since you are most likely active tanking zero capacitor makes you a hull.

Two more cents (2 for the price of one) - stay under the radar - look into the abyss long enough and the abyss will look into you.

So cute the newbie thinks 200dps tank will protect him in PvP.

So.

Damn.

Cute.

I strongly recommend ninja-salvaging / looting as an excellent profession for new players.
In doing so, you will learn:

* How to use the directional scanner.
* How to probe down ships using combat probes.
* The importance of transversal velocity as you flit about the mission site, avoiding fire from rats as you loot and salvage.
* The sheer impotence of the flashy yellow box aka "Carebare Stare".
* How to punch above your weight as you take down battleships with battlecruisers / cruisers (or even frigs if you have support).
* How to predict and shoot into the "resist holes" of your target.
* How to counter active tanks.

I'm sure there's much more, but I think that's enough to give a new player a solid foundation in becoming a useful and versatile combat pilot! You'll also make a tidy sum of ISK as you go along Smile

Actually back in my early days in this game probing out mission runners in high sec was how I learned to probe people out quickly, using d-scan to find direction and range so that I can visualize on the map roughly where they are. It allowed me to drop probes set at 1 AU on the first scan and frequently hit on my target at 50-60% usually leading to me finding it by the second scan once I got good at it. I never did ninja loot or salvage, just dropped in to say hello and laugh a little when many of them warped out, I was more concerned with just doing it again to someone else to get faster.

Later on in low/null/WH I would use something with a cov ops cloak and d-scan to find location and range then warp somewhere out of scan range to my victim to drop probes (back when you had to launch them one by one) so I wouldn't be seen dropping my probes out then send them in there set to 1 AU. You had to be seriously on the ball to notice my probes as they were only on scan for about 30 seconds and then the warp in would happen all without my ship ever appearing on scan. I scared myself with how fast I could do it, because if I can do it so can someone else.

Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification.

It's worth remembering that the limited engagement timer lasts 15 minutes and you can't shake the timer by losing ships or pods.

Only that you remember wrong, the LE timer is 5 (five) minutes and has been since it went live.
As had already been stated by Haedonism Bot earlier in this thread.

(It was 15 minutes at some point during testing on SiSi, but never on TQ.)

When did the Limited Engagement Timer change from being a five minute timer to a fifteen minute timer?

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Actually, it was a five minute timer when Crimewatch was rolled out and hasn't changed yet. I think the confusion comes from the old pre-Crimewatch aggro timers, which I seem to remember having been 15 minutes. Suspect and criminal flags are both 15 minutes, LE is five.

Cheers for that clarification Big smile I haven't been able to get online in Eve for the past week so I was confused and thought it had changed sometime this week. Good to know its still five.
