Video Card Help!

I think I killed my card.

I purchased a Gigabyte 7950 3gb card: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007581QHG/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I overclocked it to about 910 ghz and it stayed around about 65~75 degrees with the fans running at about 56%(automatic)

One night I guess i accidentally kicked my computer awake, I do not believe anything graphically intensive was running, however I believe my card overheated. My monitors would say "No source detected"

I turned my computer off and opened the case and stuck a fan on it and let it cool down all day. Plugged it back in later that night, the card worked for about 30-120 seconds before failing and my monitors again displayed "No source Detected"

After searching on google vigorously I cannot find an answer to what to do in this situation. Any tips? Can I save the card?

What do you mean, 'kicked it awake?' If you physically kicked your computer and it started, or shutdown, then that is indicative of a short/ground somewhere. I had a similar problem last week... I narrowed it down to a stick of RAM, and cleaned it a bit at the actual interface and haven't had a problem since.

Already, I am assuming that if you kicked the machine, then the physical shock is what killed your card. However, if temperatures are the culprit... then I'd recommend ensuring you have a large HAF (high air flow) case, with plenty of fans to move around, and I might even go so far as to reduce the overclock on your card.

Just keep in mind, if you are going to add more fans... have fans suck air into your case near the bottom, and have the fans near the top blow air out. General theory of thermodynamics ya know =p

I'll plug it akin again to see if it will work for a short amount of time.

but no I literally didn't, I put it to sleep and my desk is at the end of my bed. I kicked the desk and probably awoke in the middle of the night.

Don't overlook the power and data cables, make sure they are plugged in tight. Especially the PCIe power cables for the video card itself.

will do. At the moment I am concerned about the video card just crapping out because it overheated. Would one time for a few hours more than likely effect the card to that extent, and frying the card?

10 MHz overclock is not much. I really don't think it overheated. GPUs and CPUs are supposed to shut down or slow down these days to prevent overheat damage.

It may have just spontaneously just decided to turn to junk.

it defaulted at 500mhz (which i thought looked wrong so I overclocked it to a usual speed)

900/1000 is the stock frequency for a HD7950

Everytime I have had "no source detected" it has been the monitor.
One time it was as simple as unplugging the power cable from behind the monitor for 20 seconds to fix it.

Hope you get lucky

i hope I do too, my main concern was turning my computer on again after i let it cool down and the card lasted 60 seconds before both of monitors had the message "No source detected"

I plugged both of them back into my old card a 6850, and they worked, so I think it is the card.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's the video card. It's dead Jim.....

Overclocking it should not have done any damage. Usually, GPUs are suppose to shutdown if they are set to high. Temps weren't high either. I've had my current GPU as high as 100c with no problems.

Most likely when you kicked the desk, the card moved and something shorted.

Surrender is still your slightly less painful option.

my computer is on the floor under the desk, when i kicked it it moved the mouse enough for it to come out of hibernation

You probably messed up your card if you haven't already tried connecting it back in. Kicking the side of your tower has a good chance buckling ports like a USB. Also opening it up and tampering with the card and hardware is prone to static shocks (fatal hardware failure) if you aren't careful. Even sticking a fan or a vacuum cleaner inside your tower risks killing it.

Just check all cables, monitor your card with your eyes and make sure every fan spins normally.

You could reboot your computer in safe mode to run low gfx settings. good luck

Mine R9 270x is now 300 even if based clok work with 1100mhz, just because software reduce power consumpcion and core speed while 2d mode, it boost to based 100% core rrequency while you run games, im almost 100% sure your card got same feature as mine that why you see 500 as based clok because was in idle mode...

Your card based core was for sure 900MHz - Memory Clock: 5000MHz reason that you see 500 was a standard energy save app controled by AMD software.

I have no idea about 7950 card technology but this example show how R9 family cards works while idle. and probably your card to.

Try connect this card to other PC, and test it, if you dont got acces to other PC go to any PC shop-store and ask for help-test.
Try instal fresh bios

Good luck.

If is totaly broke bake it! how to bake card, vidos, extramaly danger, only if totaly broken and wont start.!

If it bleed we can kill it.
