Was just wondering if people enjoy using megathron for lvl 4's and think it's a good runner or is the sentry domi just way better and make megathron non-useable for lvl 4s. And if you think it is a good lvl 4 mission runner post your fit Blink

I've personally never tried a Megathron for L4's - against certain enemies, an active-armor railgun fit will probably work, but it's not the optimal setup, because its damage is largely limited to thermal/kinetic, and it's vulnerable to ewar in ways the Dominix isn't.

Sentry domi and rail/sentry hyperion are both better runners now. the mega is something of a fleet ship.

You can even run the hyper with heavies if you want to be more mobile, and if you run a cap booster to power the tank you get a lot of mids for solving the hypers application problems.

Really just to know, as I was wondering about it, the hyperion does not suffer from its targeting range compared to the megathron ?

I hear that the Navy Megathron is a competent mission runner against kin/therm rats. Not in the same class as a Mach/Vindi/Kronos mind you, but not terrible.

I'm sure that the vanilla Megathron is a reasonably good mission boat, just not as good as some of the other options.

Megathron is Ok for missions imo. It's ofcourse not the best but doable and fun :P

Here's the fit I've been running a while back, with succes.

7x 425mm Railgun II, Fed Navy Antimatter Charge L

Tracking Computer II
2x Cap Recharger II
Gist B-Type 100MN Afterburner

Core B-Type Large Armor Repairer
3x Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer
Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Armor Thermic Hardener II
Dark Blood Armor Kinetic Hardener
Dark Blood Armor Thermic Hardener

Large Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Large Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

5x Hobgoblin II
5x Hammerhead II

With my skills without drones and SS=903 and LH-1003 Hardwiring I get 796 Gun dps with this fit (955 with Hammer's)
No real trouble with missions, I do primarily lvl 4's in Amarr space.

I used to run lvl 4s regularly in a Mega before realizing just how much better missiles were for pve. Although i never had issue with tanking any mission, it was extremely slow. It would take almost twice as long to clear in comparison to a Raven. (although I found strange amusement in one shotting frig rats from 100k out with the rails.)

i used 2 navy megs, one blaster/webber/repper the other sniper that would take the aggro at long range (warp in first), park the blaster ship between and slaughter them as they come in, made it too easy, while my 3rd ship would salvage

I imagine that would work quite well.

i used to fly a blaster megathron navy for missions, but it needs skills and some expansive parts.

[Megathron Navy Issue, mission]

7x Neutron Blaster Cannon II (Null L)
Small Tractor Beam I

Republic Fleet 100MN Afterburner
Federation Navy Stasis Webifier
Tracking Computer II (Optimal Range Script)
Heavy Capacitor Booster II (Cap Booster 800)

Imperial Navy Large Armor Repairer
Corelum A-Type Energized Kinetic Membrane
2x Corelum A-Type Energized Thermic Membrane
Tracking Enhancer II
3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

2x Large Auxiliary Nano Pump II
Large Hybrid Metastasis Adjuster I

5x Hobgoblin II
5x Hammerhead II

2400x Federation Navy Antimatter Charge L
2400x Null L
15x Cap Booster 800

(put abit stuff in which can also be t2 but the membranes need to be atleast b-type)

I've been doing L4s in amarr space, always using the Abaddon. It was ok for majority of missions, but some of them were difficult/impossible to do with Em/thermal dmg only. So I tried Mega, starting with low skills at 540 gun DPS, it was terrible, but still better than abaddon in those missions against guristas, or angel extravaganza. Shortly later I bought the Navy Mega, raised the skills upwards and finally bought Kronos. It was a journey from a weak ship with 540 dps to a very awesome marauder, pushing 860 gun dps at this moment and still getting better.

It's a just my opinion, but mega is a very nice ship, doing nice shooting sounds and I like it a lot in its T2 form right now ;)

(using 425mm T2 rails and 3 faction gyros)

as said before, mega needs good skills to be enjoyable

only mega worth using for missions is a navy mega.

Normal Mega works fine. As a Blaster boat its a lot more fun to run missions than the Domi albeit not quite as good. SOme missions it is flat out better at. BUt most the range ios much better suitied to a domi and the Hyperion is better as a rail boat.

But if you wanna rock in with Blasters Mega is the best choice.

Get both the mega and the domi, there are missions where you diffidently want to use the domi and a few where the mega is better because it can move around apply dps, and there are quit a few missions where both are close to equal.

I like having more then one mission boat, just because it's fun to switch ships every now and then. You may or may not like the mega, but if you do you probably want to go for the navy issue or even the kronos.
