I encoutered this not long ago and decided to share this with you since its prity damn good way of catching basicly any cloacked ship, even the nullified ones.

1. Abandon lots of t1 drones in a sphere 15km araud the gate. Obviously a drone boat would be perfect for this (or few of them), it might take u 10-15min to set it up but once u do you are set for two hours. Up side of this is that no one will bother trying to shoot down all the drones, unlike with bubles which ppl like to shoot just to **** u off P
2. Sit on the gate with instalocking ship (use or imagination on this one)

If u feel like it u can garnish this with some bubles but they are not that nesesery tbh.
What happens is that once ship jumps in it cannot decloack due to having a good chance of being in proximity of one of the abandoned drones. This tactic can be used in low sec with ease because bubles are not rly nesesarry to catch t3 ships or covert industrials Pirate

Disclaimer: I DID NOT INVENT THIS. Im just being a nice guy and sharing this with you because it seems like the moust effective way to camp a gate i encountered so far (and this is coming from a guy who jumps into few gate camps a day).

Also dont go bonkers on the abandoned drones because ccp might decided that u are causaing lag if some1 pettitiones it.

the littering the gate with lots and lots of garbage to decloak might also be treading into a petition for deliberately slowing down the server, last I heard.

No... if you do it to lag out the server it's an exploit, and if you do it to decloak a ship it is not. Where the line in between the two exists is a little grey, and subject to GM investigation.

...bottom line: Using cans or bodies to decloak is NOT an exploit.

Game mechanics question:
Will the jumpcloak be interrupted if you land in range of a drone or will it last the full 60 seconds?

You're still cloaked I believe, but it's only 30 second FYI Blink

Test it, it's been 60 seconds for a very long time.

30 seconds is your session change timer, which is dropping to 20 soon!

Edit: you remain cloaked until you move, then the drones make it so you can't recloak.

This is a fail tactic. I at first thought this could be something new I didn't know could work but after testing it out on a normal non-region gate and dropping over 60 drones I never got a single warp in to land next to a drone. The closes drone I got to was 4km more than enough to stear clear of.

Im pretty sure spawning within 2,000m of a drone upon gate jump will not decloak you per but it will prevent re-cloaking. c/d

Also confirming. Unfortunately, the odds of any 1 ship spawning within 2000m of one of your drones is very small.

Maths: surface of a sphere is 4pir^2. Since the ships spawn roughly 12km from the gate, a sphere of 12,000m radius would have a surface area of 1,809,557,368m2. As you would require a drone every 2000m, you would thus require 904,779 drones/cans/etc to completely cover the surface of the sphere.

I believe all objects are spheres as far as Eve's physics engine is concerned. This does not take size of the object spheres into account, which reduce the total number of objects required. But I think you get the point.

to catch one of these ship in null sec you need..

10% dumb luck
23% pilot error
47% fast ceptors
9% lag
1% drones out
100% lulz

Or you can fit a warp core stabilizer in the low and laugh at the insta locking ship. Usually when i travel with a cloaky, nullified tengu i have a ton of EHP and a bunch of warp core stab in the bottom meaning they'll need at least 2-3 fast locking ships (most use disrupters i'd assume)

Almost, but not quite - you're forgetting that a drone decloaks anything within a 2000m radius circle of it, so you need less than one every 2000m. It's much easier to do all the math in km, since it's 2k and 12k radius.

4pi(12)^2=576*pi km2 surface area - embedding circles of area 2^2*pi=4pi km2 (area in which a drone will decloak) in it results in you needing only 144 drones - of course this isn't exact since circles don't tile so you'll have to have some overlap, but as you mentioned the fact that ships have a non-zero radius makes this much less of an issue and in fact greatly reduces the number of drones needed for the tactic to be effective. Once people get 60+ properly placed drones, I've observed near 100% decloak rates on non-constellation or regional gates.

Jump in a couple times and abandon drones to get a guidline, then fill in the rest of the sphere. You might not get everyone but you'll get enough to make it worth your while.
