Is ECM worth it any more ?

I have been away from the game for a while so not sure of the current state of it right now.

It's taken a couple nerfs, but the Falcon is as effective as ever. Now with mobile depots so for gatecamps you can refit to a full rack of the appropriate racial ECM and permajam almost anything.

I've noticed a marked decrease in the prevalence of ECM in medium to large gangs fights, I suspect the current FOTM drone ships probably have something to do with it. Could also just be where I'm active. ECM hasn't been nerfed recently enough for that to be the cause of the decrease. Still really strong for small gangs.

People have realized that EWAR which effectively disables an enemy ship all the time is better than EWAR which completely disables an enemy ship some of the time.

The somewhat recent introduction of the sensor compensation skills was a bit of a nerf to ECM and drone boats are all the rage in large fleets these days so ECM isn't quite as prevalent as it once was. But since anyone can easily refit their jammers in space its certainly not dead. Especially in smaller fights where a sudden falcon or two can really swing things for one side if the other guys aren't packing ECCM.

ECM is still good in small scale engagements despite its nerfs, but it's really taken a hit in larger engagements where dampeners have taken over. The cause: TDs and damps have both been buffed in basic effectiveness and on their bonused hulls, while ECM has more or less stayed the same and had to deal with sensor compensation skills, so it's easier to cover a very large number of targets with ewar effects with TDs/damps, whereas the random nature of ECM makes it comparatively less effective than before, even against specific set of targets.

Last 3 roams i've been on I'd say 3 out of 4 small gangs have ecm in a griff/BB or falcon form.

It's definately effective, just not worth crying over tbh. ECM is a for tear generators pure and simple.

Few examples from my recent experiences to illustrate the state of ecm (griffin/kitsune anyway):

1) Jumped on a tormentor in a plex with my Taranis tonight while extremely bored. Kitsune decloaked (lolwut?) 70k off as the tormentor scrammed me. The ECM icon didn't fade in the 1-2mins it took the tormentor to break my rep.

2) I've permajammed a MSE condor in a griffin while an atron with 75mm gatling slowly wittled it down. Took at least 2 minutes. Jams never faded long enough for the condor to lock.

3) I've been insta-blapped in a griffin by a tornado that warped in at 70k

4) I've seen a vexor's drones zoom over to a kitsune and kill it in 2-3 volleys (20-25mil well spent)

5) I've missed 3 jam cycles in a row against a hookbill that thankfully chose to go after a thrasher instead of my 1100ehp griffin.


moral of the story: align often, train sensor compensation, bring friends, and beware of cloaked kitsunes
