See, now, those are fighting words. I'm not sure what ship you're actually sporting, but I can count at least 3-4 different ships/approaches I'd take. More if I ended up in a wardec or other situation where I am not solo. Unfortunately I can't actually do that or CCP would have my neck, but someone else might. Take care. Blink

I feel pity for ninja looters-salvagers... I abandon all wrecks and let them take whatever they want.

I've even sent some of them ISK.

ISD LackOfFaith, please move this thread to C&P or General Discussion so we can troll this nub properly.

Can't you see that he's begging for it?

OP, if you aren't just trolling us, I think you may be surprised what some of those "salvage frigates" can do. If you don't believe it, then by all means, shoot the ninja and find out. For science, maybe?

This usually mean the guy wins as he is preventing the mission runner to play the game as he likes to play it.

But I do admire how you developed a tactic about it. It shows that you are not the typical mindless mission runner.

Don't discourage him. He's clearly having fun outsmarting people. And we all know what that means!

I dont discourage him, Im just warning him of the results of his actions and prevent a whine thread and discouraged to keep playing after said 'salvage' frigate killed his BS.

Well on second thought, I believe you are right. He may have a bit to learn about what happens when you shoot the flashies. But good job OP for putting some thought in and coming up with a system to discourage them from trying.

This sounds to me like an excellent plan, I suggest you put it in practice. Big smile

I have seen a little bit of misinformation in this thread, so allow me to clear things up. First, almost nobody ninja salvages anymore, because T1 salvage is worth little to nothing. Nevertheless, mission invasion is rampant in the major hubs. The objective for some is to steal the loot, either by looting wrecks or killing mobile tractor units. Many ninjas just leave it at this. They will be suspect flagged when they land in your mission, or soon after, and so they are valid targets. They count on the fact that the average MR is too cowardly a beast to actually try anything, and they will run away if aggressed.

The other sort of ninja is looking to provoke the MR to shoot, and when you do so, he will kill you. When you shoot at him, he gets a 5 minute, not 15 minute (grrr Crimewatch) limited engagement flag, during which he can legally engage you. There are all sorts of evil tricks the well prepared ninja can use to make the most of this, and the end result will certainly be the MR paying a ransom or losing his fancy battleship to a T1 frigate or cruiser.

People who are good at this make literally billions of isk per day at it, and have way more fun than people shooting red crosses, so don't pity the ninja.

Oh, and if you are running level 4s, you don't qualify as a new player, so don't expect the ninja to pity you, either.

This.

But seriously, good on the OP for not whining about ninja looters and instead coming up with a strategy to attempt to fight back. I should do some mission invasions tonight, and with any luck the OP will get a chance to test their strategies against me. Win, lose or draw, we'll both have more fun than grinding L4s.

Step 1: Warp in my alt in a logistics-fit cruiser. Not a logistics cruiser, mind you, something with teeth that just happens to have a logistics fit.
Step 2: Pop out a Mobile Depot. RR it if needed to make sure it lives.
Step 3: Have the alt start providing remote assistance. Alt goes suspect.
Step 4: If you don't shoot the logistics ship, refit my salvage ship to neutralizers off the depot and keep feeding it cap until your shield mod turns off. If you did shoot it, refit the logistics ship to guns and overwhelm your active tank.
Step 5: Curse the loot gods when that 750m shield mod doesn't drop. Just like the two billion ISK A-type energized adaptive nano membranes didn't drop when I awoxed an incursion runner recently.

That's one way I'd overcome your tank. Others will have different ideas. The main thing is, however, that because you are presumably mission fit, I can escape the engagement and you cannot.

I find it interesting that the OP is running lvl 4 missions in a BS with super expensive modules after only 38 days. Perhaps he's trying to bait other newbies into over-reaching.

If he's legit, kudo's for engaging in PvP -- even if he has some expensive lessons ahead of him.

Not kill rights. Kill rights are something totally different.

They gain a limited engagement flag on you for the next 15 minutes.

So next time, take that info into account and dont be surprised when suddenly you find yourself without a mission ship because you got baited into getting a flag hat made you a valid target for them.

This.

Also if you really wanna **** ppl off you jump in at 70k don't aggro anything .. Use small ship with mwd.

Target wrecks individually and send in salvage drones.. Just sit there and collect mats.

Fast as hell, right npc wrecks drop tons of good mats.

Most importantly salvaging without opening the container results in no suspect flag. If anyone aggresses... Concord. Ppl running L4s in shinys don't wanna 200 mil concord km.

Made tons that way.

I love my Ishtar fit.

Can run missions quite well (not optimally but acceptable compromises). Then as soon as someone assumes you are a harmless mission bear, BOOM - you have them warp scrambled and under two webs.

It is entertaining to watch just how quickly Ogre IIs and overheated guns rip apart even a frigate that is dual-webbed. The local tank can survive anything a frigate can do for extended periods (long enough to get an ECM drone hit if I want to flee), and the ship speed tanks anything larger than a frigate other than a 90% web ship.

The only subcapitals I won't engage 1v1 in it are an interceptor, a Vindicator or a Bhaalgorn (and with the latter, I'm confident I could escape the engagement, I just couldn't win it).

wait a bit... althought i consider that my thread is succesfull ( make people post ideas , thinking and some of them become aggresive Big smile ) i dont want to make "enemies" or insult people with this....
it was a small guide to show that even a nub can think something that will help him make his life easier in here...
the only thing that "disturb" me and thats why i start this plan of mine is that i always dont accept that a guy-gal simple because is more experienced than me thinking that he-she will do anything he-she wants at me... just this Big smile

I strongly recommend ninja-salvaging / looting as an excellent profession for new players.
In doing so, you will learn:

* How to use the directional scanner.
* How to probe down ships using combat probes.
* The importance of transversal velocity as you flit about the mission site, avoiding fire from rats as you loot and salvage.
* The sheer impotence of the flashy yellow box aka "Carebare Stare".
* How to punch above your weight as you take down battleships with battlecruisers / cruisers (or even frigs if you have support).
* How to predict and shoot into the "resist holes" of your target.
* How to counter active tanks.

I'm sure there's much more, but I think that's enough to give a new player a solid foundation in becoming a useful and versatile combat pilot! You'll also make a tidy sum of ISK as you go along Smile
