Just as the topic says, I want to know what my fellows do before important battles or operations. Personally, I have make the last meal before that important event my favorite food. Namely Spaghetti and Meatballs with cheese. I find the carbs help keep me alert and on guard so I can make sure I do my best at the task at hand.

I like to take a short walk around and survey the vessel I will be using for the operation. A short communique to make sure there hasn't been any lapse or problem in insurance often calms my anxiety. I also often check the munitions and/or fuel bay to make sure there's sufficient resources available in case of...complications.

I like to smear myself and the walls of my cave with sacred mud, and beat on a skin drum with the bones of my ancestors.

2 pints of lager, 3 shots of bourbon, and setting up my disposition thusly;
"**** it. Wing it and hope for the best."
Funny how often this works.

Fill my flask with rum. Grab a cigar from the humidor. Sit down to a good meal at my favorite pub. Then I take a peaceful walk around my ship, ensuring that she is ready for the upcoming storm. In the last few moments sit in the bay listening to the hum of the star port as ships come and go, then I make my way to my pod. If I don't come back today, at least I am at peace, even if the worst should happen.

Nothing.

Battles are such a normal part of what I do that ritual would only waste my time. The closest I have is ensuring my fighter pilots are briefed on the particulars of the op and I check with my Executive officer to make sure the drones where repaired and returned to the correct bay. If it involves travel I'll run calculations as to how much jump fuel I'll need and make sure I have liquid Ozone to transfer to the cyno pilots.

You'll have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel.

I am defensive fighter. I don't look for fights they come to me. But if there was an answer to that question for me it would be my morning prayers.

Unlike my husband I will actively root out heretics wherever they may hide. I do pray for divine victory before plugging into my pod but i'm sure your not looking for a generic answer like that huh? So ill be honest. When I know I am about to leave on patrol I tip over every picture in our CQ before leaving. Looking at the pictures of my loved ones before such a task is distracting at the best of times...

Rotate my crews from standard operating shift to special operations shift. Keep an ear on intel channels. Brief my crew on the operation, inspect the ship and, if I expect to encounter heavy resistance, replace all nonessential crew members with specialized AI. When piloting basic frigates, and sometimes even destroyers, I can get away with being the only living individual on board.

And finally, I make sure my clone is updated.

Activate voice comms. Verify that my ship matches the operation's declared fleet doctrine. Follow orders.

I tend to keep a checklist of standard preparations; fuel, cargo, pants, ect. Any circumstancial preparations I make before my standard list. Once everything's done, I tend to wind down and relax with music flowing into my ears...
As I'm still training to become a trader, most of my mind is occupied with reviews of market locales, possible profitable products, and other things besides.

If this capsule didn't have a music player, I'd go insane. As is, I'm only mildly unhinged.

Most combat scenarios that I plan for are sleeper drone interactions. I have set up a thorough check list that I complete prior to running each site. I first review combat statistics on the WH I am running gathering intel about any recent capsaleer combat in the system. I then perform rigourous scanning for combat capbable ships in the system. After all security checks are finished and i am satisfied that the risk level is low. I deploy my mobile depot in a safe region of space and refit my ship to combat parameters. I then flip on my recorders to monitor my engagement for future analysis of sleeper behaviors.

If I'm in control of an operation I recite the Litany of Command to myself

When in deadly danger,
When beset by doubt,
Run in little circles,
Wave your arms and shout.

That or I sing military marches and war songs from across the cluster.

Sometimes you don't have that much time before the operation to take meal.
Usually I just say a quick prayer to winds or ancestors, while closing the capsule and undocking the ship.

Honored are the dead, for their legacy guides us.
