"C:\Users\Chuck\Desktop\EvE_SISI\eve.exe" server:Singularity

Still doesn't get me to the Singularity server. Any ideas???

As I understand it, you need to append "--args /server:singularity " instead of "server:Singularity" to the command line. Any confusion, typos etc. it defaults to TQ.

The "--args /server:Singularity" is for Mac users. You really only need to use /server:Singularity as the parameter on Windows

Which particular connection issues? It's better to be explicit when giving references like that, since it avoids one party having to guess/assume what the issue actually is referring to. Smile

Thank you for responding.

Please see post #52 which was before your quote which detailed all the information requested.

The Repair tool works for SiSi, but when it completes, it does not give an option to start eve.

Using the standard shortcut to the eve.exe gives the exception listed in post #52.

I don't have any idea how to connect other than those two listed ways from the eve wiki.

Repair completes fine, but has no option to start.

Ok, so there are two things you can do to fix\debug this:

  1. Reinstall the EVE Launcher
  2. Run depends.exe against the steamapi.pyd

In order: you can reinstall the current (at the time of writing) EVE Launcher from here: http://content.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/beta/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_1_654066.exe
Note: this build won't work against Tranquility, so be sure to install it for your Singularity client only!

Secondly, you can debug the dll's and dependencies that the steamapi.pyd requires by extracting it from the .zip file that it's stored within, and loading it with Dependency Walker. The .pyd is stored within the library.zip at the following path (from your logfile) D:\EVETESTSERVER\launcher\appdata\EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.613956.win32\library.zip. Simply extract it to the same path and open it with Dependency Walker, which you can download from here: http://www.dependencywalker.com/

The output can be saved, and I can then analyse it to see if anything obvious is missing.

As someone living in a country which still apply bw limitations to internet as a method, I know that unfortunately us that share this misfortune cannot just "reinstall" EVE everytime it hangs. It is already a matter of choice sometimes to download a 1Gb patch. As a rule of thumb I left the bw consuming measures for last resort, chnaging to other consuming resources that I can spare. My troubleshooting routine that have been sparing me extra bw taxes is as follows (I hope it helps someone):

- Always have a copy from the last functional client before the patch to be, shortcuts to exefile for TQ and Sisi and for the launcher for both aswell. That come in handy shall some of the following steps fail;

- Only launch the launcher in update days, avoiding using the launcher when it is not necessary. Launcher mini updates may be cool and stuff, but if you have to take care of bw, it is better to only get them when you have to;

- Make the shortcuts both TQ and SiSi direct to the exefile, as it asks you before doing downloads and you can plan what to do;

- If it is a standard install of EVE client, copy it to another folder that is not covered by the broken umbrella of windows OS protections. I advise to make it to another HD, even a removeable if possible. After you made the copy, uninstall EVE and run from the uninstalled copy. You may want to install at first the eve client to correctly make windows run it, not sine qua non condition, but sometimes it may help solve some situations;

- When you are updating, do not panic about frozen progress or frozen launcher if it is couple minutes, because I usually have that but when I move the mouse over the launcher screen, it soon catches up. ISPs running BW limits also usually runs download throttling for analysis and filter against P2P software, so Download anything large in this ISPs take considerably more time than usual. The game performance is also prejudicated by those;

My setup includes two ISPs which came to help me with a lot of problems. I use a 3G/4G mobile dongle to play the game, and only use the fixed Internet to download updates and quick logins. That resolved my problem with socket errors and general network performance. My fixed internet has a good speed for browsing and downloading, but general gaming and mm gets broken very often due to crappy tech used by my ISP (which is the same as many european ISPs).

Since I started going like this, I have never had multiple patch tries or socket errors.

this is from a few minutes ago as of my post time. sis launcher hangs at 15%. after the third fresh install and multiple repair tool uses. ive tried steps from page one and two. not sure what else to do or where else I can try something different. i should note the repair finished fine and did not have a start button.

Are you running from behind a proxy, because all your connection attempts seem to be routing via 127.0.0.1

no I am not, im running brighthouse cable internet through my wireless router and no proxy and haven't had any problems before until now, the launch day of rubicon it fixed itself of the problem I was having. the very next day a new update came out and it stopped working again after that update. still sticking at 15%

This is a rare but known issue which we are still trying to resolve. We know what is happening (e.g. a corruption of the update information you receive from our servers), but not why. You said that deleting the file that caused the issue made the launcher download the file it had to updated, but it failed on the next. Can you see if doing so for each file that is reported as missing in the rollsums? And are you running the launcher with administrator privileges?

Hi and thanks you for your reply.

Yes i have run it with the administrator privilege.

The only file i know that is corrupted is the 'resDX9Scene.stuff' because when the launcher check this file i find that 2 blocks are missing and stop everything. so we cant know if the next files are ok or not.

This can be easily fixed if you guys can add arguments of the shortuts of the repairtool: instead of repairing wtih TQ build and files and trying to patch it as a SISI build it will repair it with SISI files directly.

no ?

Today I have deleted the 'resDX9Scene.stuff' like the other time and launched the repairtool, it downloaded it and

Hi,

thank you very much for this detailed report on what is happening in your case! This gives me a few ideas where to look in the codebase tomorrow. What is very interesting is that running RepairTool and Launcher gives different results. They are both using the same code for updating / repairing the client installation with the small exception that the launcher's version has better handling for some edge cases, and IIRC the repair tool by default ignores any sort of cache about the client installation's state.
However, I would not want to rule out that the previous problems we discovered and resolved were just masking something that's hidden even deeper, and thus harder to detect.

Also, one more question: Is g:\ a network drive, a symlink or a junction?

That looks like the launcher cannot reach the CDN. Can you run a trace route to cdn1.eveonline.com?

Thanks for your reply.

Another difference with Launcher and Repairtool is that the launcher update with sisi file and the repairtool repair with TQ files. im right ? there is no argument to add to the shortcut to repair with sisi file directly ?

i give you my last launch with pastebin.

Actually this is important information, we have a suspicion that in some place a connection issue is not handled correctly and causes the corruption you saw earlier. (-:

About repair tool defaulting to TQ: I am not 100% sure. If /server:Singularity is not accepted then it's probably not supported. But we plan on a sunset for the repairtool anyway once the lanucher connection issues are resolved to a satisfying degree.

OK, do you have any firewall or proxy that might be interfering? Are you on a wireless or otherwise potentially unstable connection?

i tried a shortcuts of the repairtool with /server:singularity
it changes nothing
i edited the starts.ini with server singularity but it overwites with tq when i launch repairing. nice try lol

Its the first time i get problem with the launcher, and it is since the last release of sisi patch. on tq it works fine.
hmm even with the crappyiest connection ever, files cannot be corrupted each time donwnload it and each time at the same line.

but i dont know why this problem is very rare...
do you have some tools or /arguments to add to have a more detailed log ? i already use /log:debug /debughttp /uniquelog

I have done a comparison of the log of the failed sisi update and a log of a successfull last tq update.

i found that after all the deleting lines i need to get this to play !

To Soleil Fournier

1min a loop is too long, you get timeout. Try another conection with your 3G phone or something ^^ i had routing problem to eve online on the 2004's or 2005's years. packet loss etc... if your connection is ok for others tasks its a routing problem.

Show us a tracerout wich shows packetloss, i cant remember the name of the program.
