New computer: Any suggestions?

So I'm seriously considering buying a new computer and I'd like some input on what to get. Right now I'm running a Toshiba laptop that I bought around 2007 or so. It can't keep up with EVE (which is why I stopped playing) and I really want to get back in the game but when I launch EVE the computer shuts off (not a shutdown but a hard power off) after 2-3 minutes of playing.

Here's what I'm looking for: something that can play EVE with high detail graphics and not get bogged down when running missions with a high number of enemies. That's all.

I'm open to a desktop computer as well. To be honest I never take my laptop off my desk anyway.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I regularly build computers, in fact I am awaiting parts to rebuild a computer for my folks.

Let me ask you... what all do you intend to do with the computer? Is your primary computing focus EVE, or do you have other high-end, graphics-intense games in mind? What's your budget?

Also, as far as gaming is concerned, a laptop should never beat a desktop in raw power - if nothing else, a laptop simply doesn't have the room to allow for liquid cooling, which can allow you to overclock your hardware.

Hit me up in-game, or we can publicly continue your discussion here.

If you are in the US, this is what you should get.

You have to add the cost of a Windows 7 license but I am sure you can get a OEM license from Amazon or a retailer.

I'd like to add Windows 8 licenses are cheaper if you don't mind the new start interface but that can be easily fixed anyway.

Also don't forget about monitors.

EVE is the only high-end activity I use my computer for. Otherwise all I use my computer for is MS Office and internet browsing. I would hit you up in-game but EVE causes my computer to crash lately.

To put it into context - my PC is 5 years old. Positively ancient. I'm running an E7300 dual core processor which has been overclocked as far as it will go (3.6ghz if you care to know.) It runs Eve on full graphics with a couple of clients open as well as a few other things.

I would definitely go for a desktop, just for the ability to upgrade bits as you see fit.

If you can avoid buying something pre-made then I would. Generally the first thing they skimp on is the graphics card. Building your own computer is no harder than making a fried egg sandwich, if a little more time consuming!

I love taking my PC to bits - it has morphed so much from when I first bought it that there is only one of the original components left. It's been through many many reworkings.

Its the furture Lol

I kid, I kid. It's a disgrace.

But its still cheaper than Win7 even when you add one of the start menu programs.

Shooting yourself in the stomach is also cheaper than Windows 7.

Doesn't necessarily mean it's worth it.

Every modern PC with price betwen 700-900€ will alow you to play most modern games with max details and high fps.

Personaly got brand new PC based on I5 4670k (haswell) Radeon r9 270x (mid clas grafic card, this year family relase), 8gb ram.

EvE online max details 300-400fps depend location and zoom on 3d models (invertal one) 60fps while fps synchronisation and v-sync, personaly i prefer this 60 fps mode while synchronisation to avoid problems with monitor refresh rate.

Rome 2, Ultra - up to 97fps depend camera zoom on soliders and obiects. 40 fps on Extreme setings.

If it bleed we can kill it.

You should try this

Anyway I've always been happy with windows 8.

Mainly because I'm not hardwired to discard everything that is new as a matter of principle.

I put all my shortcuts on the start window then just move the mouse down and click what I need.

Sure beats

[Start] > [Programs] > [Publisher] > [Developer] > [Game folder] > Game

If I want to get really fancy then I mount my Cintiq up as a second monitor with the start menu and then tap the screen with my Off-Hand index finger to launch whatever program I like without having to do anything on the main screen.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

Either one should be more than good enough for EVE, with the only exception being heavy-duty fleet combat with max graphic detail (and let's be honest, even a monster machine wouldn't really keep up with that anyway).
And it's rather cheap too.

Or you could go for something at double the price and a bit more power and flexibility

...but given what you want to do with it, I doubt it's really worth the extra cash.
