So, is this a scheduled or unscheduled emergency downtime? And the way the game was running was there even a point to the 5 minute warning?

Yes, it's a scheduled emergency downtime.

schedulled emergency - these two words together sounds like somebody is planning the crash landing :)

If a node went down without recovery than the issue is greater than what a UPS can support.
I believe they have triple redundant power including a special spin center for employees after a good pub crawl that also supplies power.. for Jita.. and concord...Perhaps now is a good time for a pub crawl....

CCP really should give us an ETA longer than they always expect.

Their ETAs are never correct and are always extended leaving us all trying to log in only to have to find out the ETA has been extended by twice as much time as originally announced.

I would have to agree with this one. At most, EVE uses 786mb/client on max graphics and on 1080P while sharing system RAM with my dedicated Radeon HD 8970. I can run 6 clients effectively before needing to turn down graphics.

Windows 8 is a severe memory and CPU hog however, so its possible that trying to multibox on that particular OS might be more resource intensive. It is, after all, not an OS designed for Gamers.

If you have a quad or 8 core processor, try setting affinity for each exefile.exe process to have 2 cores each. So if you're running 8 clients, set core 0 and 1 to client 1 and 2, core 2 and 3 to client 3 and 4, and so on. EVE can run on a dual core no problem.

Or you could use ISBoxer, it's really good at giving you a suggested CPU setup for multiboxing...

Should use it anyway, I cannot imagine how you play this game with more than two or three accounts without it without going completely insane...

AMD Processors don't have too much of a problem multitasking because they don't have fake "Virtual" CPU cores.

EVE is more of a CPU intensive game than a GPU intensive game. CCP has done a nice job optimizing all shaders, sprites, and prefabs. So you could run 4 CPU cores to 1 GPU core without losing performance. On dual channel memory however, it'll bottleneck there. Ideally, 8 core processor, quad channel memory, and 2 SLI graphics cards to run 8 clients.

(But the dev video on Tesselation will be promising, I just hope that they can emulate PhysX support for AMD/ATI graphics users, otherwise multiboxing with good looking games will not work.)

I'm sure they have enough UPSs to keep the whole site up for a while, at least long enough to start up the generator outside. But from my own experience: if a fuse blows on the "external" power line, ane no one spots the alarm in time, everything would go down anyway, because there can only be as much oil in the generator's tank...

A whole night spent on starting up all the servers in the datacenter back up after this kind of event - when metadevices need to be synced and databases moan about corrupted datafiles - priceless.

Good luck CCP! I don't envy the operation guys right now, but the community owes them a beer when Tranq is back up!

Typical, just resubbed and installed the game.

Still knowing me when I left last time it's probably the least of my problems.
