Black Screen after Login

Hey folks,

Seen a number of people posting about this but still not seen any reliable resolution for it.

Open Client -> Login -> Verify bars etc -> Black screen.

I can hear music, apparently click things, just cannot actually see the game.

Sign me up for this problem aswell. I can open the in-game menu but not choose character or anything.
The intro video plays after resetting all settings and reinstalling the game.

mines the same

I did however just update to the latest nvidia drivers 331.82

dont have time to do a rollback currently but wondered if that could be a cause

Could you please run logserver.exe (see https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Log_Server) to create a log of this problem. Then please write a bugreport about this issue at http://community.eveonline.com/support/submit-bug-report/.

You can also try to update / reinstall your graphic drivers, your DirectX drivers. It might also be interesting to change the DirectX version from DX11 to DX9 in the launcher settings.

Bug report submitted along with attached file.

I tried a driver reinstall, both graphics and dx, i also changed it to dx9 in the launcher but still the same. even safe mode does nothing

Ok, so i seem to have got round it...

when on the black screen, hit "esc" and goto the reset settings tab then "clear all cache files"

it hung a bit then seemed to reload the character selection screen, all seems to be functioning again even after a reboot

Thank you for the bug report and for finding this workaround. As far as I can see from logs this is probably caused by corrupted bulkdata files, which are part of the cache. I created an internal defect to improve the handling of this case.

Easier way to clear these cache files: Start launcher, open the launcher settings (cog-wheel at the top right), switch to "EVE client settings", "Clear cached client data" - press Clear

Having the same issue. :(

Logged out in space. Logged in today, there was a new patch. All good till now.

Patched up, got in, and got struck by the black screen. Can hear all the music and everything. Can see the menu when i press escape. Nothing else. Cleared cache, didnt' do it for me.

Till before downtime EvE worked great.

Today past downtime my client installed a patch.

Now the game won't work any more, after I select the character to play I get a black screen. I can hear sounds and if I press ESC I get the preferences window.

Even clearing the cache, resetting settings and so on, won't fix the issue.

Population on the server is dropping rapidly, so don't think it's a client issue.

I had this exact same issue shortly before the server crash today.

Login, select character, graphics don't load, but can still access ESC menu and move my mouse. Nvidia drivers up to date. This happened in DX9 mode.

EDIT: Is everyone in this thread on NVidia cards? I am, I've seen a few others mention them.

Same here and as far as I've read it's been a longstanding issue.
It is clearly not on the end-user side. (I emphasize clearly and NOT)

P.S. Something went "pop" on their side as at first I had some proxy death message and after about 15 minutes I noticed overview was not showing the rats I was aiming at. I am glad I managed to warp out before I got the black screen (at least I hope I did).

negative. ATI card users and mac users (no idea what's their gfx) experience the same problem

I'm having a similar issue.

If I try logging in with this character specifically, I see my "new mail" at the top left, and I can access my ESC menu, but everything else is black. However I don't have any problems logging in with the other 2 toons on this account, nor with my other 2 accounts. Out of the 9 toons that I have and use, only this one gets a blackscreen.

I've tried the cache wipe, and I re-installed... but if it were an issue on my end, wouldn't I be getting a blackscreen on all my toons?

Most of the black screen issues today were caused by the hardware problems on TQ. The clients were waiting for some information from the server, which was not coming (or very delayed).

For the case that your issues are continuing:
First: Clear your client cache and try to login again
Still no luck: I am afraid, that you have a different problem. Please create a log-file from logserver and create a bug report (see my previous post) - feel free to mention my name in the bug report. It would also be good to include a screenshot, which shows the client monitor (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+M) with the open "Outstanding" tab while being stuck at this black screen - assuming that it is possible to open the client monitor at this point.

So what is being done to fix this? It's clearly server side, as most of us, myself included, have one account that works fine, and one that doesn't.

I had this yesterday, logged a bug report as requested, bug was with my ship, CCP docked me up, was able to log back in, stripped ship and rigs as requested, repackage ship, fault fixed. CCP replaced the rigs.
