8 Months on and I Still Don't use the new Launcher

It has been quite a while since the new launcher was officially integrated into EVE and yet I still can't bring myself to use it.

I really want to like it but I just can't, no matter how hard I try. Everything to do with it is sluggish: it's slow to switch accounts to log in, it's slow to install patches (although we don't get a choice on that one) and it has an annoying habit of verifying files whenever the heck it feels like it.

A bit of optimisation would certainly make the programme more appealing to myself and players like me. I'd suggest the following:

1. Change the account switching to be similar to the old launcher, using the drop down menu. Select your account and launch. Having to select a button to tell it that you want to change account is simply wasteful.

2. Make file verification a user-selected option for an on-demand test. The verification on launch should only be to check the version ID.

Agreed, and it's not the only thing CCP doesnt fix. You'd be extremely lucky if they even look at this thread.

As a side note, the launcher does exactly what its supposed to my end... Logs me on and patches. Doesnt bother me if it takes 30 seconds longer to get me online...

The launcher is fine for me, I don't think it really causes any difference in login time. Some people just don't like change and will resist it forever, but the launcher is the way forward.
The problem with old client was having to restart it constantly to do updates. Now I can get all of my updates out of the way, then log on happily.

By the way, mine almost never checks files.

Windows 7 (Windows 8 has no real performance gain)
No Apple products here
Android 4 on the phone also.

Just remember newer isn't always better. Remember Windows Vista?

I too was skeptical about the new launcher. But I am happy now since it has convenient news in it that I can read while I wait for Eve to launch, such as news about many community fansites.

Also, this morning many players nearly biomassed in error due to issues with the launcher. Big smile

The launcher is patching too slowly and it is heavily unconvenient when you need to launch multiple Eve instances at the same time.

I never use it when I can avoid it.

And to what do you compare patch time to say it's slow? Some other different patch with different content? Patch for another game? Arbitrary number pulled out of your ass?
