SoE arc: Dagan

It appears that much of the info I've found about this final mission of the SoE arc is out of date. The most recent I've heard is:

1. Dagan has high resists across the board. Your damage type doesn't matter.
2. Dagan can tank loads of damage. Be prepared for a very long fight.
3. If you try to get close and speed tank he uses a neut to kill your cap.
4. If you try to fight from distance your DPS will be too low to break his tank.

I brought my Thrasher with me outfitted with 150mm autocannons and an assortment of ammo for handling all the different types of enemies you encounter throughout the arc. I'm handling them all pretty easily including the first couple of cruisers I've encountered who couldn't hit me once I got within 1km or so and kept my AB going.

Do I need to take a step back and reevaluate to take on Dagan successfully? Cap is less important to me than someone using lasers, so would speedtanking be an option with my autocannons?

I'm sorry to add to what must be years worth of Dagan posts. Oops

I don't think I've ever seen a Dagan post.

DMC will instruct you to correct or add any notes you see fit to Evelopedia. Mission reports and the Epic arcs are definitely one of the more useful places to contribute. I agree.

As the mission description suggests, the mission is supposed to introduce you to teaming up with others. An average player reaching this mission for the first time won't have enough skills and good enough ship to beat Dagan solo. Ask in local for help, even two people can beat him easily.

The fun is trying it and seeing what happens. Give it a go and see what evolves. You can always warp out and up ship. Or get a friend to help. Which is what I did when I ran this as a 4 month old player in a Kestrel.

Happy times!

I started an alt a couple of years ago (so this is not recent experience) and this is what I think I used to solo Dagan:
Thrasher fitting (as I remember it)
High
7 x 200mm AutoCannon I (depleted uranium s, maybe, don't recall)

Mid
Experimental 1MN Afterburner I
Small F-4a LD-Sulfate I Capacitor Charge Unit
Small Shield Booster I

Low
2x Gyrostabilizer I

Kill the small stuff then...

It's not cap sable with everything running so pulse the shield repairer only as needed. Use the AB to orbit at 500 and blast away. Bring a bunch of ammo.

I literally just finished this arc again today. Dagan no longer nuets. He has a TP and a beefy tank, that's it. I used a t2 beam coercer with an adaptive and small armor rep, orbited at 500. took 2 min.

As for newer folks trying to take him on all I can say is get a friend to help. He is still a very dangerous target for newbros

I did him a few days ago and he nueted me. I ended up swapping to a cruiser to kill him.

That is weird then. He didn't even nuet me the first time I beat him.

When you had to choose a general from one of the 4 main factions, who did you pick ?

I picked the minmatar one. Some guides say that your choice there affects Dagan's fit.

I have done it twice for the gallente and this time was for amarr. He only ever target painted.

It would be very strange for Dagan to fit nuets if you chose to boost standings with minimatar. After all if a newbro is doing it and thinks "i want to boost my chosen factions standings" he/she would be flying a ship not needing cap Lol

Your reasoning plus a guide that said that Dagan is setup to counter ships of the race you choose is why I picked Minmatar.

Though Minmatar ships still use cap for AB and shield/armor repair. So a neut will hurt them, especially since their capacitor is smaller than other races.

For as long as I have ever flew Matar ships I have always either fit them passive, or if it is active, with charges, but from what you say, ya it makes sense. Most matar would do this mission first time through with an active booster that runs off of cap. But seriously... a target painter if you choose Amarr or Gall... would be better off with a TR imo or just for Dagan to use a nuet no matter who you chose.

The original forum post regarding Dagan was posted some years back on the original forums by a pilot called Panfloot, we was a few days old and couldn't kill the npc. I offered assistance to fly over and kill it for him, but he tried again throwing drones into the equation. He was sucsessful solo and after thanking me for my offer of assistance we became friendly and I had him join the corp / alliance, I was in at the time.

I like to hang out in a BC and help the new guys having probs......the level of paranoia i encounter is both amusing and heartwarming......."I won't fleet with you....you'll kill me!!!"

Ahh, new guys.......Smile

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

I just took him down after a few tries. No neut on him, or if there was, it was weak enough I didn't notice.

Make sure you take out his escorts first and that your ship can do at a minimum 150+ DPS. I did it in a Thrasher armor tanking with 7 200mm Light Gallium MGs, orbiting at 500m, and with rigs + faction ammo I was at about 173 DPS.

I used a broad spectrum of ammo across the ACs without issue.

(and as is obvious from my Corp, I am an extreme n00b, maybe 2 weeks in)

Usually a destroyer with short range guns should be able to take Dagan out even with crappy skills, when I first did it way back I remember using a blaster cormorant to kill him and it was pretty tough cause I had to try various fits to get it just right to survive and have enough dps to kill him but I managed it solo.

That attitude is better than blindly trusting you, especially when you aren't comfortable with the mechanics yet.

Especially since there used to be a group that would use that same mission and system to lure new players into ambushes and ransom/rob/kill them blind. They were one of the reasons CCP added the SoE arc systems to the newbie protection zone.

I'm not saying killing newbs is a good thing, but most of the friends I have made in this game have come from me killing them or them killing me. Its mostly about the conversation that takes place afterward. Twisted
