These threads are always funny. Basically, you want to be able to say 'goons are terrible human beings in real life; they are the Other, they are a cancer on Eve'. The same crap BoB said, back in the day.

Let's assume it's true. So what? Perhaps we are awful, sociopathic people. You wag your finger at us in a thread and feel momentarily superior. Now what?

We don't need to say it, as if it is a claim. You have proven it in front of a video camera. There is no moment of superiority, it is a consistent feeling.

"Now what?" gradually comes to those who are questioning whether being a tool for such jaded juveniles is really worth it and this thread is a part of that.

Look at this big crybaby. I sincerely hope for your sake that you're just really drunk so you don't have to live with the fact that you posted these big tears while sober.

in your opinion, it is proven.

"I am superior to mittani" "mittani is a goon" "Therefore I am superior to all goons"

You have almost completed buzzword bingo.

If you manage to fit Sheeple, and Wake Up in there too, then I will probably get some sort of prize.

I don't get it. Most people have gotten drunk and done something harmlessly inappropriate at some point. Is it that much worse if you do it on camera? As sins go, what mittena did is mild and highly forgivable.

I have plenty of that as well in my real life, I'm not quite understanding what that has to do with pixelated avatars flying internet spaceships.. a lot of folks are unable to separate the two and become emotionally attached to digital properties.

but there are real people behind those pixels.

It's doing wonderful things for my abs, though. Probably end up comparing fitness notes with Roc at the next Fanfest.

W/r/t the NPC alt, I wonder if I should just pre-empt the whole YOU ARE A BAD PERSON finger-wagging by adding something like "I am a terrible human being who makes inappropriate jokes after five jagerbombs, which is indeed unique in the history of mankind. I also use profanity, gank, grief, and scam." into my forum sig. Thoughts?

Just one.

Why are you back?

I never left. Look to the galactic West, you might notice something there.

I have related this story in the past.

We had some temporary workers going through finished goods at my work place and one of them noticed I had an Eve related background on my computer. He asked if I played this game and after answering him I did, we talked about the game and how things were changing at the time (around the Dominion expansion). He brought up he was a member of Goonswarm and I joked about the "fee" for joining with him laughing about it.

Overall, he was your typical nerdy gamer: slight body odor, greasy hair, and overweight with chewed down finger nails *shivers*. If I had to label him in an age category, I would say he is the early 20's type stuck inside his cell phone more than in reality.

Anyway, there was another temp worker that was fairly attractive. Whereas a bit young for me, eye candy was still free. Yet the Goon decided to ask her out; and of course, she turned him down. Apparently, he got more persistent and she became more direct in her negative replies. Eventually it must have reached a point where the Goon did not care except for himself - a similar mentality that seem to be prevalent here in the game at the time ("Goons are here to ruin your game!") that human resources quickly got involved. And while the details were vague to me, both of them were gone and rumor was she got a small settlement.

So for a while, I had a negative view over Goons.

Since then, I have had casual interaction with Goons - mostly through the forums here. While some have been outright pricks, "Oh, you're a NPC alt!" and disregard what I said outright, others have been cordial and a good discussion was at hand. Many have appeared very adamantly against RMTing since they see it affecting the whole game and not just their slice of it. Though not directly affected (I mostly idle in game), their "emergent gaming" has shaken up a very boring game. And that one Mitten's web site has had some good articles worth reading (at least to me).

So I have "warmed" to Goons even though one bad apple did initially spoil that bunch.

And strangely enough, I believe it was on "Modern Marvels" that I learned a military division that repaired bombed out roads in the war zones in Iraq signed the cement with "Goons".

Just my thoughts.

they don't all put up with each-other.

a lot of them harass their own alliance with anonymous alts that are not in goonswarm.

alternatively, farming renter space with alts, etc.

people are people. they take what opportunities they can to get ahead.

It never ceases to amaze me that people can play this game for years and still not "get it" and some new people come and within a week they soar because they do...kind of like real life...sometimes.Blink

It's been a while since I played an MMO. Posts like this are a lovely reminder of how deep the attachment formed between a recluse and his imaginary objects can become.

Because there aren't people like that in almost any group you can name, inside or outside of game.

I used to poast on SA back in '02 - '03 can I be a goon now? I'm not really autistic but I've perfected the act of pretending to be.

Seeing how so many goons have abandoned decency and respect in order to be on "the winning team". How do you guys stand each other? Is there ever a time when you look at your virtual table scraps and wonder if it was worth it? I personally would never want to join the largest "winning" team in any game because I know such groups are full of people who are afraid to really challenge themselves and can't handle being the underdog. They also home to the most obnoxious, blameless elitist dicks who are usually crap when it comes to actual player skill. Is there ever a time when you resent your fellow power tools and wonder if being on the "winning team" is really worth it?

OP is fail! Posting and chest beating from the protection of an alt in a NPC should automatically disqualify any idea/opinion/judgment presented. If you believe in your in your stance, post with your main and get some skin in the game!!!!

There should be an auto-generated tag for these threads. Something along the line of "NPC ALT Thread Detected." This way we can all just get straight to ridiculing without wasting precious moments actually reading the OP.
