Petty crook and opportunistic thief? Yes. Pirate? No. Not even in the same constellation as a true pirate.

I'd rather call you a plunderer of goods.

Negative sir, you are not a pirate. You can sleep easy.

At this stage you're merely a salvager, or rather a scavenger, and thief. Incorporate some murder into the mix and you will then be a pirate, yarr.

I'm flying anywhere theres stuff that needs to be stolen, wrecks left to scavenge, or pilots who arent paying attention. Most pirates fly around looking for fights, I try and avoid them and often make the pirates give chase.

I'm just floating here in my capsule scanning down some sites to hack, and I started wonderin' how people feel about us rats out there trying to make a dishonest living. I dont kill people (not as rule, I'm just better at getting out of situation than I am getting into them) but I do steal, everything, from anyone. Am I pirate?

You are the Vermin i hunt, the prey, the chased herbivore. You run from fights and take no risk at all to gain what you desire, Scum you may be. But a Pirate you ain't.

Look out, we got a bad ass over here. Careful everyone!

Aww, how cute. You assume your witty one-liner bothers me, and that by me replying I am admitting it to you. Your quick wit amuses me, to the point where I'd concider letting you live a while longer....

No, you are not a pirate. Though, it sounds like you want to be.

Seems folks have different notions as to the nature of a pirate

Pirates and thieves have many natures.

Some of the most honest and honorable people I know are one or the other.

But I suspect you’re of a different nature.

What is it you want actually?

You're not a pirate, you're someone who might want to consider going legit (and honest) and offering your services as a professional, commissioned salvager to people who like to blitz their way through various agent assignments. Y'know, offer a 50/50 split (ISK value) on all the salvage they don't want to bother collecting? Then you don't have ninja or run from them anymore, everyone makes money, and you become "much sought after" in a good way instead.

Win-win for everyone. Just something to consider.

How is that win-win?!

The man would be 50% down from what he could potentially earn!
Typical Ammatar thinking - all compromise, no asserting your own way.

Mr Eds and other salvaging professionals take note - salvage and the loot within goes to whoever gets to it first.
Too slow? Too bad.

Thanks, that was an interesting read.

It's not so much of a dilemma for the entrepreneurial salvager though, it's pretty clear cut - get to the wrecks, activate salvage modules, scoop the loot before the other guy does. It makes little sense to waste time bargaining with someone for something they don't want anyway.

Fair enough. Abandoned is exactly that, after all.

Personally, if I don't feel cleaning up my little I try to be polite an "abandon" my claims on it with CONCORD. The little markers on my display turn blue and then I'm off. Only takes a second, wish more people would do the same.
