Solo PvE lowsec/nullsec setup

Hi All,

I'm coming back from a 3 years break :). There are a lot of things to recall, and even more new to learn.
So, if someone can help me with a setup, I'll appreciate a lot.

Here is what I'm looking for. I'm a solo PvE player who doesn't like any PvP aspect of the game, so I always try to avoid it at all costs :) On another hand, the best rats are in low/null sec. Many nullsecs are just empty (no other players), so it's pretty safe to farms rats - until someone shows up. Also, occasionally there is need to travel to highsec, and there is a guarantee to get into one or more gatecamps along the road.

So, I'm looking for setup that:
1) Can fit Covert Ops Cloaking Device II - this is a must
2) Have as high (DPS + tank) as possible to farm rats with a decent speed
3) Operates with drones or blasters, as I wouldn't be able to dock to an enemy station in a nullsec, so I wouldn't be able to reload an ammo
4) Can GTFO as fast as possible.

I understand that these reqs are mutually exclusive, so I need some advice on this. The strategy is simple - farm rats in low/null sec; once someone shows up - run, run, run; also very important is the ability to sneak through the babbles/gatecamps.

I don't know anything about wormholes yet, but might go there once I get back the feel of the game.
Right now I'm looking into Proteus, as most of my skills are Gallente-based (32mln sp), but I'm pretty much open for any other suggestions. Before I flew mostly Dominix, and loved it, but no way it can survive solo low/nullsec in an enemy territory; and being solo means ALL nullsec is an enemy space :)

I can spare 200-300 mil ISK for the trial setup - I have about 1 bil ISK, but don't want go too high right now as I barely remember how to fly :)

And no, please don't suggest an alt to ease my life - I just don't like the way it works.

your options are a t3 or a stratios, both of which are a few hundred mil outside your budget.

Otherwise you're talking dps fit force recons like the arazu or pilgrim. Or a stealth bomber frig.

Honestly just scout yourself a WH to a lowsec/nullsec area, take an ishtar with a mwd and t2 cloak. You'll be able to rat and do whatever, and probably make back the 200m investment on the ship before you die, unless you're bad. WH isn't even needed really, you can put some nanos or WCS on the ishtar and go wherever as long as you don't end up in a large bubble camp, then refit with the mobile depot for ratting. (mobile depot is a new thing that allows in-space refits)

You didn't specify what you really want to do - only 'farm rats'. If you only want to kill the highest bounty beltrats, i would say either get the good old bomber to do that, or a nullified and cloaky proteus, or maybe stratios.

Maybe you want to do anoms? not sure how the ability to be cloaky and do good dps figures in there - stratios seems only thing currently that can do both really. Other ways would require maybe an alt to scout and get the dps in.

Thanks guys, seems like my future option is stratios. Well, at least I know where to focus on. Meanwhile I'll probably try "nullified and cloaky proteus", just as suggested.

Yes, for now. This way I think I get back on my feet in game pretty fast, plus making some good ISK for future modules - as I recall, any good thing in EVE is just freaking expensive. If not those people who love to engage PvP even on those who don't like it, I wouldn't need cloak, but in reality everybody needs it in order to enjoy game at all.

Thanks for mentioning "WH to a lowsec/nullsec" and "mobile depot" - these are new things for me, so I'll dive more into reading :)

You should also do DED sites as you can use the mobile depot to fit for scanning gear and run up to 6/10s in a Proteus for a chance at some really good loot, you get decent bounties too.

Fitted Proteus, flew through the babble camps with almost no problems (got targeted in couple of them, but was able to get out), and now happily ratting in nulls. The only problem is measly DPS - 266 (29 km optimal) , and that's including drones. (Sigh) Well, it's better than nothing :)

Want cheap? Take the best of its kind - Dominix
Want danger? Travel fit it and bring a fitting in your cargo - Mobile depot

All you need to fit it is long range sentrys at the less 120 km, with MJD.
When you cross a gate first make sure its not camped by looking on the world map if not take the chance....
Fit it with 4 damage amps and 4 tracking amps and you are good. also dont forget drone links.

It has around 600 dps at 130 km.... it can run anything about 1 - 2 hours of running in nullsec and you repaid your fitting.

a proteus shouldn't have gotten targeted at all, and even with a covert sub you should be doing twice the DPS, because you should be fitting blasters.
