Would removing local help to lower TiDi?

Hi.

I was just thinking, if CCP removed local, would we have less server issues due to a lot of people being in a system at once?
Would removing local be good for the game in general?
What would be the pros and cons to removing local chat?

Only disable local when more than 500 people are in the system. Yes, yes. That would be perfect. Doesn't matter if it relives node stress.

TBH I've been a fan of removing local for a few years but lately I have started to go against the idea.

Pro's = Easy carebear kills: Brings back a sense of "ooh feck" back into 0.0, not much else. Also I really don't fancy wearing out my F5 button constantly refreshing DS every fecking 10 seconds.

Con's= Much harder to form fleets when you don't know who is where and what they are in, plus logistics it's just a lot of hassle especially for smaller corps alliances. Also you will just have constant carebear rage in the forums.

Chat is not handled by the sol nodes, so basically a stupid suggestion.

I meant: would it discourage dogpiling into a single system somewhat?

Tbh i dont think it would, as that just removes the list so to speak and yes some of the stuff that needs to happen to monitor local but nothing that would have a significant impact on the server, it doesn't actually remove the people or ships in it, that is actually causing the lag, sorry Tidi

Unless you meant remove local and everyone in it, yeah that would work great. i think CCP have it under the technical term Node Crash Blink

It would help, in the same way that removing peoples eyes will cure blindness.

No, removing local would not be good for the game because of how the game currently works. Easy gate travel + cloaks +cynos that keep you from being detected by ANYTHING but local would make it very hard for people to survive outside of high sec or wormholes (wormholes work because the don't have gates or allow cynos, and also because of very low population compared to the rest of the game). You'd have to make a totally new game for "no local" to work.

People who want local gone are short-sighted, they think it will lead to more fights some kind fo way. They fail to take into account human nature, people will just stuff an already over stuff high sec more than deal with low/null without local no matter how good the "rewards" are.

Ship Scanner?

there is the app now where its more easier now to tell whose in local than ever before. It highlights everything from ships, numbers etc etc, and that just comes from a copy and paste of the ship scanner log. ta-da

That is, when you can find the carebears. You would have to d-scan/probe every system you jump through. And what if they're not in d-scan range of the gates? Some systems are big. That would get tiring real fast.

Even if you ignore local being on separate hardware to the flying in space computations, removing local won't help. In fact, it might make things worse as there will be more people spamming D-Scan, which will increase the server load.

LOL. This is a new one.

Lets use 'lowering TiDi' as a reason for removing local...

Dogpiling in a single system isn't a bad thing. I want epic space battles.

It would be like chopping off your arm in order to lower blood pressure - sure, it would work (in a way), but it's not that practical.

Pros and cons can be found here.
