I'm a little lost on the best way to approach attribute allocation. I'm a new player who's hoping to go straight down the combat route.

Would Per / Intel be my best bet?

Any advice would be great.

Personally I'm of the opinion that optimal remaps are always better than balanced ones. That said, in the beginning you just have so many different skills to learn that it just doesn't really matter much. I would stay balanced and train at least all my main skills to 3 or 4.

Then I would take the int/mem remap and do the core skills to 5 (Mechanics, CPU / Energy grid skills, Navigation, Rigging, Scanning, ...). I would do this first as this is just stuff that applies to every single thing you fly. You want to be able to get the maximum out of your ships.

Once these are done I would remap to Prec/Wil and do weapons and ships. Stuff like Cruisers 5, Gunnery support at 5, weapon skills to 5, those are skills that would benefit a lot from a remap.

EDIT: Have a look at this here: Newbie Skill Plan. It's a guide written very specifically for new players with step by step instructions on what to train. It's not bad. :)

You will probably be fine with INT=PER (24i 24p 17w 17m 17c). It is certainly better than the default for combat purposes.

You will still have 2 bonus remaps after using the annual remap, so you can change your mind (literally). Do use bonus remaps wisely, as they are not replaceable.
