So I've run a couple of these in Guristas Null Sec, and I'll post what I know:

First of all, you will die in a Covops, you will need something cruiser sized at least (for null sec).

I warped in, hacked the first can, and rats spawned (felt like about 90 seconds- 2 minutes) as I was hacking the second. They proceed to blow up the remaining cans and attack and warp scramble you. They then warp out after 30 seconds.

These Guristas rats were doing 155 thermal dps with 80% thermal resist (it was 100% thermal light missile damage).
The rats are not designed to be killed, they simply function as a tank check and timer for the site.
One of the cans that exploded hit me for 799 damage with 93% explosive resist.
I did not fail my hacking attempts.

Loot drop was 29 Covert Research Tools, and a Wetu Mobile Depot bpc (1 run). This was from two cans (there were four in the site)

These really seem to be designed for more than one actual person. I don't see any way to hack all the cans before the rats blow them up, with one person (I am not a particularly slow hacker, and these were green cans).

I would be curious how this compares to low/high sec sites and wormhole space.

The timer is variable. Sometimes you can get through all 4 cans, sometimes only 1.

It's rare that all 4 have anything of any particular value in them - cargo scanner is a must.

IMO the sites are way, way, WAY too easy right now.

I've done 5 today, pulling two implant prints. A sixth site in low already had someone in it - I docked to check on the rest of the denizens of the system to decide if I wanted to do it, undocked, point my scanner at the site, and saw a pod. :D Seconds later, the site disappeared off scan. I lolled.

What sec are you talking about? The rats have spawned mid way through the first or second can each time in Null sec, and the cans always had loot.

Having loot and having value are different things.

I assure you, the timer is quite variable. I don't know if it varies by security at all, though the lower sec sites do take longer to hack, but when you get an n>2, you will find that sometimes it lasts much longer than other times.

The longest I've seen so far was in low sec, where I cleared a site, docked up, dropped my loot, undocked, and it was still on scan.

No ****. I am curious how you are valuing things that have no market yet and claiming they have no worth, especially when you haven't even said what dropped, or from what. An empty can, I can understand.

Er... the loot list is pretty short and the valuation is pretty obvious?

The research tool things do nothing right now, but are probably worth holding onto.
Villard wheels are an implant manu component.

Both of those items drop in ******* droves - they're destined to be worth little. If the research tools eventually play into the whole stargate thing they might eventually be worthwhile but they have no immediate value. You'll get plenty of those from any can you hack.

Implant blueprints are phat lewt, and depot BPCs are good too.

For the sake of comparison, I just pulled 47 villard wheels from two cans in one site in low sec. I looked at one of my BPCs earlier and it required only 30 to build. BPCs aren't even showing up in every site, villard wheels are showing up in every can - the supply is going to crush the demand for those.

Out of (malicious) curiousity, does anyone know if a Ghost Site's explosion damages every player ship on grid, or is it a specific radius?

I tend to doubt that it's the former, but I've seen stupider things on expac releases. I only ask myself because I unfortunately have been at work all night, or I'd have found out for myself.

Covert research tools might be like "blue loot" from WH space, the pirate factions want them apparently.

Its not the full grid. I was able to hack a can, cloak, and escape the blast radius before the explosion.

Also, I can confirm that most of the time you do not need multiple people. But you WILL only get to hack two cans at most, if you're lucky. There's plenty of time to hack a single can.

EDIT: I have since encountered a site where the timer was long enough to hack all 4 cans.

The blast radius is 10km, IIRC.

They may not do anything, but they'll almost definitely be worth saving up.

Maybe. The dog-tag style NPC item someone else mentioned seems more likely at this point, though. Dunno how the pricing will be since there's only one kind, and they're so extremely common.

My suspicion is that CCP's monitering how many of these enter the system, and will calibrate need for villard wheels, covert research tools, etc, for later expansions; further, given the symbol, odds are CRTs will be used like datacores in the new type of invention.

That said, what are current NPC buy costs for these? Haven't gotten a chance to log in today. :x

Am I remembering correctly that these are anoms, meaning you can warp straight to them without any probing?

How common are they in each security bracket (including W-Space)

It wouldn't surprise me.
Also given the talk from CCP about capsuleers striking out on their own away from the empires and the before linked article mentioning us building stargates, plus with the rubicon chronicle mentioning villiard wheels with regards to transport experiments, I am guessing those will be very vital to whatever we get with future expansions so they will probably be in higher demand later.

I am tempted to just stockpile some of the stuff I collect just in case.

It would be hilarious if CCP were just trolling all of EVE, and never gave CRT any use - just to see how high can speculators drive the price of a pointless object.

(Unfortunately knowing CCP they probably won't do anything as interesting Sad)

Having run a bunch of null sec ones now, I am not concerned about the tanking so much as the timer, the loot drops, and perhaps the abundance of them. I found about half a dozen in the first day, and now haven't see one for awhile, so I am guessing now that there is info out there, there are a lot more people running them.

It sounds like the timer is a lot longer in the highsec ones, perhaps even long enough to hack all the cans by one person.

AFAICT, no, it's not. The hacking game is defeated much more quickly in high, however.

I've had some in low where, after hacking all 4 cans, I've just sat for in excess of another minute or two before there was any spawn. I've also had them pop just as I reached the second can.
