Why are some T1-Meta4 better than T2-Meta5 modules?

I am somewhat irritated that a couple of Meta 4 modules share same attributes with Meta 5 (T2 modules), but have much less fitting requirements. In other words, some T1-Meta 4 modules are plainly better than T2 modules.

This makes no sense at all. Many T2 modules are hardly ever seen. I have never seen, or will ever see any sane person fit T2 Tracking Disruptors or T2 Neutralizers...

This is truly an error in design and I do not see any plausible reason that would justify why T1 modules with lower meta level should be better than T2 modules...

CCP, please bring order in this chaos.

Do a search next time before posting, but yeah, the short answer is that there is no logical reason.

Best explanation IMO is that in the past meta 4 modules were much rarer and cost alot more than T2 so there was still reason to use T2, but with loot table changes many meta 4 modules have become dirt cheap thus completely eclipsing their T2 counterparts.

As for how it affects players, not a big deal really, many people are uninformed and still buy the t2 versions of modules that are better as meta4 (Ewar modules, points, webs, shield power relays etc etc), so there's a market for them. If you know better simply buy the meta4 modules instead of T2.

CCP has actually addressed this once when they buffed T2 armor plates as they also used to fall under this category, so they are aware of it, but I guess are too lazy/don't care to change it.

Part of the rationale might be the fact that while M4 modules are entirely dependent on loot drops, T2 modules can be manufactured by players. That leads to price differentials (a meta-4 scram, for instance, can cost much more than a T2 scram), and sometimes to issues of what's available (if an alliance needs a lot of heavy neuts, a manufacturing line for T2 neuts makes for a steadier supply flow than gambling on loot drops for M4's).

Same with Meta 4 DCU vs T2. meta 4 costs a pretty penny more.
Meta 4 painter costs 25% as much as the T2 painter and they're pretty much the same.

Another case of: this was fine in the past, then something got changed and unexpected things happened.

Metas also have lower fitting requirements. CCP will be doing a module re-balance no doubt. All that matters is when.

Thank god someone else is willing to post a wall of links on this.

The fact that T2 are player manufacturable in all areas of space is actually rather important. Or at least it should be. Meta 4 is, yes, sometimes strictly better but it's also not available on a consistent basis.
