EDIT: CCP, our masterful masters and lordly overlords have, in their endless wisdom, created a collectible awarded to all hulltankers. Cheers guys <3

From the creator of such threads as "Nerf Dodixie" and "Nerf Disco" comes another thread guaranteed to make you realise that the old ways were better and kids these days have it easy, mhm.

NB: Not a complaint about the mastery system, despite appearances. Read on.

I'd like to start off with a quote from an old friend of mine, made about a month and a half before Rubicon.

At the time, we thought this mere extremist bunkum. Surely the builds on SiSi were a joke, the threads in F&I mere japes? As the 19th loomed ever closer, our self-delusion became more ardent, more desperate. CCP was both late and early with their April Fool's joke; they'd never take away our crippled and broken system and replace it with one that makes even less sense?

A slight digression, perhaps. The purpose of this thread is not to criticise the mastery system - far be it from me to comment on the fact that mastery of the Velator, a rig-less rookie ship, requires rigging skills, or on the fact that T3s do not require subsystem skills to be mastered. No, the purpose of this thread is no less than addressing la manque fatale du fleuron d'EVE.

To whit: the cruel and sadistic removal of Hull Tanking - Elite.

This certificate, crème de la crème of the certificate system, could be placed in a pilot's decorations at will and made sure that everyone else knew they were a real man. REAL MEN HULL TANK. There is no better feeling than winning a fight in a hulltanked navy megathron after seeing "Wtf you're hulltanked?!?!?!" spewed in local. Why, then, CCP, are you emasculating EVE's population? Is this, in our patriarchal and male-dominated society, gender equality gone completely wrong? Or are you just trying to crush our spirit before the introduction of golden ammunition and pay2win?

These, of course, are extreme conclusions to leap to. But it has to be said, a certain character of EVE is draining slowly away; a character that has been dying in recent years, first in the form of explosions, then the jukebox, now our funny certificates which form part of the EVE culture.

What's next? A ban on saying "It's a Templar, the Amarr Fighter"? CCP, we love you. Please give us back our Hull Tanking certificates.

A discussion for another thread. I'm sure their resources are currently diverted making sure the new stargate expansion due for [winter next year at the earliest in its earliest possible incarnation] will be great.

Even one of those collectable items would be better than nothing, albeit hardly ideal.

Ohgod is this true? I haven't logged in yet today. I knew they'd screw it up somehow or another.

Not to mention it was one of the very few "ELITE" certificates for which the pre-reqs were both reasonable and worth training. Alas, from the certificate dev blog it looks like CCP is continuing with this stupid trend, of giving a level-4 certificate to someone who has typical crappy "woo level 4 in my gunnery supports" while reserving level 5 for "woo i trained every skill in the missile tree because I have 180m SP and don't actually play" Thus leaving a veritable uncanny valley of enormous size between levels 4 and 5, with 95% of high-SP pilots trapped in the middle because they aren't spending months training shield comps to 5 or other stuff that is literally worthless at worst or impossibly situational at best.

I used to think there was a line. But now.. now I just don't know. It could come to this. Cry

This is the kind of thing that would make me want to unsub my 9 hull tanking accounts. If I had them that is.

I feel your pain. CCP Ytterbium has posted about it here after CCP Rise brought up the issue. It is being looked into.

Anyone who had 'Hull Tanking - Elite' before Rubicon should receive a freaking medal. How else are we now able to tell if indeed we are a real man?!??!?!?

As one of the Hull tanking elite, I agree

Very, you also need Gunnery at V (or weapon upgrades to V, I don't remember, whatever) to master industry haulers.

Also Industry I requires anchoring III, because noob industrialists must know how to anchor something they can't afford.

Ignorance is the cause of suffering.

and this is the fundamental issue. And kind of a poorly designed one considering that CCP also removed the option to make certificates public because no one used it.

Nah, the fundamental issue is that OUR HULL TANKING PROWESS IS NOT RECOGNISED.

Agreed, as a prior holder of the cert in question and a vocal proponent of hull tanking I am sickened by this change.

It used to be that some men, lesser men, would look at my Orca and know, from my ELITE certification, that I have so much EHP that attempting to count it would be folly. This change has not elevated those men to our stature, it has brought us down to theirs.
