Busting gate camps solo?

Your premise is simply not possible. If your blind jumping into gate camps, your only real strategy that doesn't rely entirely on luck is a setup that can semi-reliably crash gate when you don't get a favorable matchup.

First, any remotely competent gate camp has eyes, so they will know what your jumping in with, and get to decide whether the fight happens. Second if you haven't scouted the camp, you wont know what your jumping in to. If you happen to bring a good counter to what they are camping with, you may get lucky, but more likely, a camp of any reasonable size would be able to handle you. Certain ships, such as ECM falcons, or Logi, which are both popular with campers, make it extremely difficult to fight 1 vs many. Now its true that certain setups are sufficiently powerful to have pretty good odds in say a 3-6 vs 1, but they are very high skill, and very high isk, and few players are going to go blind jumping 5 billion isk machs around, because you will sooner or later (most likely sooner if its a mach) jump into a big enough fleet, whether camping, roaming, or hunting you, that it will just be overpowering.

Example fleet that will kill almost anything without a cloak (or in lowsec, so fast an align time that it is unlockable): 22 man gang, with 10 T2 DPS Cruisers, 3 T2 Logi, Huginn, Lach, some fast tackle, maybe links. There is enough fast tackle to cover both sides of the gate, and hold you long enough that if you agress, the heavier tackle can grab you before you free yourself and warp out. Choice ends up being suicide some frigs in a blaze of glory, or keep crashing the gate as the fleet slowly picks away at your tank.

Also, a special note on Bastion, while it has some strengths, and may be useful for breaking a scouted camp, a lot of players are going to end up with dead mauraders until people appreciate the serious weaknesses bastion has: 1 - Neuts, 2 - Anything that can tank you (which includes anyone with logi), 3 - Enemy reinforcements. (Need to check how easy to bump they are, but that could make 2 or 3 even bigger weaknesses.

I'm quite fail at this but one trick to keep in mind is to remember you previous local when you go through a gate. No guarantees but jumping from en empty local into a camp that you think you might beat, is a different story then coming from a system that had a colorfull local channel. Also 'a few frigates and destroyers' doesn't sound like a camp to me, so those guys were probably on the move. If you decide to take on such a group you can opt to primary their negative sec stat members so their fleet will have to take sentry aggro to get you of their back.

A proper camp will be setup in a way that a lone BC will easily die to it coming from that gate, so busting a camp from within the system itself screws with that idea. If you can reship and attack the camp in a way they can poorly defends against, it's worth a shot. I have fond memories of killing sniping attack BC's that hang back a far distance from the gate. You can make a bookmark with a cloaky and then warp on him in a suitable ship (AF, SB) and kill him while his friends can only watch as they have no range. Recognizing these kind of vulnerabilities go a long way doing stuff solo.
