Astero - First shot at an Exploration Fit

Well, grabbed an Astero this AM, just for fun to try it out as an Exploration vessel. I have to admit to not having done my homework on it (much) and was surprised at the tight fit for a cloak and probe launcher, CPU-wise.

It's been fun messing with test fits. And yes, I expect a load of trolling, which is fine. Just thought I would post a fit that works (for me, with my skills).

This setup leaves (for me):

21/40 (power)
9.4/324 (CPU)

High (2x):

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher

Mids (4x)
Afterburner II
Scan Rangefinding Array II
Scan Pinpointing Array II
Scan Acquisition Array II

Lows (4x)
Co-Processor II (3)
Nanofiber Internal II

Rigs (3x)
Small Processor Overclocking Unit I
Small Processor Overclocking Unit I
(empty)
(the two T1's combined give more CPU percentage than the one T2, wich takes up 300 calibration)

Anyway, that's the best I can sort out right now... any thoughts? Trolls expected, no problem.

Why expanded probe launcher?

that is the worst PoS fit i've ever seen.

What the hell is wrong with you.

All scanning mids (WHY DO YOU NEED THESE AT ALL?) and 3 coprocs?

wtf dude.

Expanded probe launcher, no pvp mods.

Can't do profession sites.
Can't do combat sites.
Can't kill anyone.
Paper tank.

WTF is this fit for anyway?

The only troll in this thread is you, sir.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

In part, because I had one extra one in my hangar, but the extra 10% (10% bonus to strength of scan probes) is handy.

(Edit: if I understood your question correctly)

It's purely for scanning down highsec combat sites - no other purpose. I scan down the site, bookmark it, then bring in a combat ship and later a Noctis to clean up.

It's not for low or null, or any other purpose. Not even for data sites (which are truly useless in highsec).

I don't want this thing in PvP at all. That is entirely the point. It is for one purpose only.

I appreciate the feedback, despite the attitude.

(Edit: when i loaded the cloak and probe launcher, the CPU would not fit a single additional module in any slot. hence, adding to the CPU with the co-pros and the rigs). Like I said, it was/is a work in progress.

If that's all you want it for, then I have no idea why you want to use a 100+ million isk frigate to do the exact same job that a T1 exploration frigate can do now.

Since you're clearly trying to max out scan speed and probe str over all other considerations, why are you using an astero over a t2 frig which has a 50% str bonus over the 37.5% bonus?

Fit sisters CORE launcher, save yourself 200 or so CPU. It gives the same bonus to strength as the faction expanded launcher.

Lose the unnecessary scanning mods for profession stuff, so you can run some sites without switching weapons.
-OR-
Replace the scanning mods with shield tank, maybe a deadspace small booster, fit damage mods in lows, and find you can actually run combat anomalies and hisec DED sites easily.
-OR-
do the same but with armor tank

BTW the tactic of scanning in hisec and returning to run sites died several years ago. I know several dedicated explorers are they all scan with their combat ships. Properly fit the Astero should be able to scan and run most content without refits, and the stratios definitely will be able to.

My attitude was due to me being convinced you were trolling and using this new ship for the complete opposite of what its good for and designed for.

Just for fun. Something new to try to see if it did the job any better with different fits. Really just to have fun with one of the new ships from Rubicon, and maybe use later for different purposes in different places. This was just really a fun project, that's all.

OK cool. thanks. I have played EVE since 2010, but am wholly, entirely new to Exploration. I'll check into all that you wrote above. Thanks again for the input. It is much appreciated.
