Ok so this question has been hovering over my head since I came to this magnificent game, does anybody else see a similarity in the Noctis and Serenity from the TV Show "Firefly" and the movie "Serenity" and if anybody else sees it, was this intentionally done? is CCP a bunch of Firefly fans??

Not really, no.

No stubby-wing rotary engine pods, no bird-neck cockpit, no firefly-butt engine, and just a general lack of the rounded shapes of a Firefly-class ship.

Jeeez, am I the only one not understending the concept of sci-fi western and cowboys in space?
I didn't even get till the end of the first episode...

Yes, it's just you. Firefly was awesome and ended too soon.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Yes my friend, you are the only one.

Firefly was one of the best SciFi series of all time.

If you didn't get to the end of the first episode (which, by the way, was not the first episode due to the network wanting to show them out of order) you really have no idea what was going on.

Don't see it...

...but the weird (and FRICKIN' VERTICAL!) alliance cruisers are kind of Gallente-colored.

Noctis reminds me more of the Earth alliance battlecruisers from Babylon 5 than anything in Firefly.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

To be fair, the premise becomes evident more quickly when watched in the correct order.

Mankind has spread out and is Terra forming and colonizing... probably too quickly for it's own good.

Once the Terra forming process gets to a certain point colonists and supplies are dropped off, often poorly equipped. Often the colonists elect to go with fairly primitive equipment (or have no choice) due to cost, lack of ability to maintain sophisticated equipment, or other factors. Some succeed and become fairly pleasant places to live, many others regress to a very primitive state or flat out fail completely.

The technologically advanced core worlds end up being further and further from the grim reality of life in the colonies... where reliable firearms are preferred to delicate lasers that need frequent recharging, and horses are often the preferred common transportation compared to hover craft or ATV's in the largely roadless area's. After all, horses make baby horses all on their own... vehicles need to be hauled in and maintained. Thus your cowboys in space feel.

Government and law in the core worlds is strict, controlling and efficient... in stark contrast with the almost nonexistent law and govt. in the colonies. The core worlds seek to extend and exert their "advantages" to the colonies (and exploit them in the process). This eventually leads to a war, which the colonies lose.

While the core worlds are the technical central authority, the colonies are numerous and space is vast. A great deal of activity happens just outside the effective reach of the core worlds law enforcement.

Our hero (if you can call him that) was an officer from the losing side, just trying to get by outside the reach of the core worlds whom he despises (with good reason).

Those are the broad strokes, and doesn't do the excellent storyline and acting justice.

Haters gonna hate.

I named my Noctis "Serenity" for this very reason.

why did they cancel the show again?

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

That pretty much says it all.

They insisted on showing the episodes out of order, bumped it for other things innumerable times, and shifted it's time slot all over the place. Unless you had a DVR it was very, very difficult to catch an episode much of the time.

At the time they didn't realize how talented (and big) Joss Whedon (well known now for the Avengers) would become, otherwise they might have treated the show like something other than a curiosity.

As a side note, I hear there is a chance that Nathan Fillion (Mal) might be cast as Ant Man in a year or so.

It's ok I'm a leaf on the wind!

P.S. The scene where the alliance fights the reavers, was totally Gallente vs Sansha.

But the alliance ships were way to curvy and rounded to be Caldari. Caldari are blocky ships.

It's really not that unusual of a concept, when you dig into the backstory of it all.

Yeah, has to be the Omega, Abaddon reminds me of the Warlock and the Hyperion does sort of remind me of the Hyperion but its less obvious.
