Could be cool. Kind of sounds like one of those Jesus Features, though.

“Rubicon begins a multi-expansion arc that will allow players to begin harvesting, amassing the resources, blueprints, the implants and things that it will take to construct the first Star Gates and then go forth and colonise new galaxies."

The implication being that the Ghost Sites, at best, may have relevant drops for these 'vision' related features (the Ascendency Implants are inferred to play a part, somehow).

At the same time, they are qualifying all this as a 'set up' and 'the beginning' so don't be expecting new systems in tomorrow's patch (and even if they somehow were, they won't be found in a day).

Didn't read the rest of the replies, but just imagine trapping a whole alliance in a system by destroying their gates..

Found this a while back, but there's not much info yet, defenintely not releasing with this expansion though.

Most space games have combat, exploration, and empire building as a key factor of the genre. Eve has combat. Exploration in Eve is called exploration, but it is really NOT THE exploration that is famous for space games. Empire building as it is now simply null-sec alliances or highsec corps (and some wormholers). There is no real frontier, unknown, expanse of deep space.

So with that said, there is a direction CCP is heading to make space look, feel and act more like what you would expect from the movies and other space games. Space, the final frontier, and it's not on the grids as you know it.

Speculation:
No it will not link to wormholes (that mechanic is just fine as is, working as intended).
No it will not link to Jove space (that is CCP's private testbed space and new ccp devs training grounds).

So where are the stars?
Eve is located in a cluster known as New Eden. There are several thousand stars that are linked by stargates. There are a couple thousand stars that are off the highway accessible only via wormholes. There are yet 100,000 to 1 billion stars that exist in the cluster (or galaxy) that are not accessible via a stargate or a wormhole. Thus, there is plenty of room for new space (the limit only being the number of computer nodes in the real world to handle the expansion).

When?
Years (or Soon™ whichever come first). The computer code to Eve is filled with legacy old code that some in CCP don't even know how it works because the people that wrote it are long gone, and where are those deployment notes? So a new code base is being programmed a little here, a little there to fix the existing system, one subsystem at a time. Thus, the new deployable structures will (may) be the basis for fixing the current POS system.

Adventure?
Heck yes! Why not. Since exploring new space is going to take actual real world computer resources, then the number of new star systems is going to have to be very hard to achieve. Creating new missions, ghost sites, and more (tied with lore) will make the adventure that much more harder to gain a new system. Remember, when they created Titans, CCP actually thought there would be only 10 of them in game at any one time (true story). So this should be a fun ride.

Just my thoughts.

Now, you see, I'd actually pay coin for an expansion like that... and quite a few other things to jazz up the CQ... but as I was saying about "good intentions"... ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

The only thing any of us is going to find in the CQ closet are the bleached skeletons and ghosts of Devs long since departed of this "world".

I don't know about you guys, but I'm hoping the new gates will link us to the Chinese server. I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere recently that the Chinese law requiring MMOs to be hosted on Chinese servers has been done away with. No better time for Tranquility & Serenity to become one!

Don't know how I stumbled across this, but according to this article Rubicon is the first expansion in a multi-expansion arc that will release components and implants that allow capsuleers to build their own jumpgates to new areas.

I haven't seen anything more about this. Anyone care to comment?

If you listen closely to what they are saying in various sources Rubicon merely places some materials in place, and provides some hints about the future player star gates.

As long term developmental plans go .... it's pretty ambitious
it also could be a hell of a lot of fun

but will the hardware support the vision
can the software successfully be written to actualise that vision
I think these have always been CCP's biggest stumbling blocks

gate fee's
conflicts over gate control
new prime locations for 'interesting stuff' ....
it could be awesome

I want it all and more.

In addition to all the space ship additions and expansions I want my walking in stations too. Also, I want to throw on a drop suit and land on planets.

I'll take whatever I can get because I love EvE and I want it to feel as "real" as possible.

Not another one. It's Fanfest speculation, not in development, no concept art, no psuedocode, just dreams that will eventually shatter.

Not sure what the point of new space would be. EVEs population density (excluding empire and a few select systems) is pretty low. More population density = more conflict = greater fun/hour. A new zone of space with new mechanics could be ok I guess, but if it is just going to be more nullsec for the nullsec alliances to expand into then it seems like a waste of resources. I'd rather see them working to drive more conflict within the existing regions. (In other words, create more ways that we can **** with each other).
