I downloaded the rubicon update and logged in with no issues, did some mining for a bit with 2 accounts logged in, then the game first froze on one account then the other. went to log back in with one account and had an update to the launcher.

Now all I get after I log into the launcher and click play is a black screen. I can still select things but no idea what I am selecting, the game will log in fine, I can hear the music etc just fine, but a black screen is all I get.

This is on the Mac client, on a retina Macbook pro running OSX 10.9

Tried deleting and redownloading a clean client. Same problem.

There was no Mac launcher update with Rubicon. What version is your launcher reporting that it is running?

At the moment, I can't answer the question because I am redownloading the client again hoping it will work this time... Will reply after the download finishes and I get it installed again.

I will report back here after it finishes and i try to launch again.

FYI, the launcher did an update prior to downloading Rubicon twice, then after the client crashed it did another patch and then the client started with the black screen. No idea what it downloaded other than it said installing update to the launcher.

UPDATE:

Redownloaded the client again and after waiting for it to finish verifying and then installing it will not even load anything now. The icon just sits on the dock bouncing and never goes beyond that point. When I click the icon to close it it only gives me the option to force quit. No error codes are given and no log reporting popup or anything.

As of right now I am unable to even try to log in to Eve due to this and my three account are unusable.

With further tinkering I managed to get the launcher to load finally. For some reason it would properly load from the applications directory. It would however load fine from launchpad. It is currently updating the launcher from the downloaded version.

It has downloaded v.2.1.655130 and is validating client.

System Info:
MacBook Pro Retina, Mid 2012
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Software OS X 10.9 (13A603)

And back to the black screen of doom.

reinstall did not fix the issue. I await your responses CCP

First of all: Correcting myself, CCP Atropos informed me that a Mac update also went out. I thought it were only the DirectX 11 changes for Windows that we deployed today, but obviously I was wrong. Sorry about that!

On towards troubleshooting your problem:
If you right-click the EVE Online.app and select "Show Package Contents", then navigate in the opening Finder window to "Contents" -> "Resources" -> "cache" you should find a file named something like "launcher.2013.11.19.log". If you could upload that file to a place like http://www.pastebin.com and link me to it, then I could take a look at it to see if something is obviously broken.

I have two files with similar names in the package contents.

launcher.2013-11-19.log Pastebin Link

launcher.2013.11.19.log Pastebin link 2

Which one do you need?

This really should not be two different log files, so that seems weird. However, according to the log files then the EVE client was started. Do I assume correctly you have also tried rebooting your machine to rule out any old processes hanging about that might interfere?

Have rebooted twice, shut down all other running programs etc.

The launcher works just fine, but as soon as I click log In and it switches to the actual client all I get is a black screen with sound.

Just tried to log in again and noticed that unlike before the update to rubicon that the launcher program is not closing when the game client launches and instead is staying active in the dock. After I begin to get sound in the game client with the black screen the launcher icon only shows the option to force quit.

Sounds like something is hanging with the launcher or something.

Interesting observation. Maybe it's hanging because the EVE client start up takes a bit longer? We have not received anyone else observing this behaviour so I would rule out a general issue with this. I am trying to get hold of some of our more Mac affine engineers and testers to see if there are ways to get more debugging information from the EVE client itself (since it should be started according to the launcher logs).

well what has me confused is that it WORKED the first time I launched it immediately after downtime and such. But after going mining with two clients running with my two accounts logged in first my alt then my orca pilots clients lagged and froze completely forcing me to force quit them both.

After the second client crashed I tried to log back in because I was chatting with a guy in fleet chat and I couldn't because it started with the black screen.

I have reinstalled and all the suggested tricks with no luck so far so I don't know what else to try on my end.

Changing to fullscreen just results in the entire screen being blacked out and having to use the power key to get access to the desktop again so I can close the client.

I went ahead and submitted a Tech Support ticket under Graphical Problems via the ticket system.

I may have found the problem!!!

I went into the settings on the launcher and changed the setting to keep the launcher open to make it close the launcher once the client launches and it launched the game perfectly!

Hope this fixes it. Thanks for your help CCP Aporia!

So now the EVE client starts? Weird, that shouldn't have any influence on this. Maybe you kept it running during today's deployment which would explain some issues? But I hope it works for you now, sorry for the inconvenience!

I didn't keep it running but I did periodically open it to see if things were online yet. It did download a supposed update to the launcher at that time as I stated before. Then when the servers were online it downloaded a second one and then downloaded the new client version and worked fine.

It didn't start the black screening until after the client crashed a hour or so after downtime today.
After that I trashed the entire install and reinstalled it from scratch.

Whatever the problem was apparently the launcher kept freezing up and causing the game to not be able to show me the graphics properly or something, I dunno, I am just glad it is apparently working now.

I've got the same problem. Black screen with music. I can see very faint words on the right for undock and agent finder. But that's it. I can't kill the game with control, option, esc. After a minute the cursor and faint words disappear and it seems the system is locked because I can't command, tab or kill the game. I have to power cycle.

I went into the launcher settings and cleared the cache and tried to launch the game with the 'keep launcher open' option unchecked. Same results.

I have not tried to reinstall yet. I'll try that after work tonight.

Running Windows here, during the patching process the computer shut itself down several times during the update but I finally managed to smack it enough and the patch to deploy properly on my computer. After a succesful launch of EVE from the launcher, I too get nothing but a black screen, I can hear the audio from the character selection and start up music and I even logged into one docked in a station, no idea which character though. I have reinstalled, deleted patches, tried the launcher settings, and nothing has worked. Oh merciless CCP Devs, I pray for your help!

If the client actually starts but is black screening, then it is of vital importance to get a logserver log.
