How Profitable is gas cloud harvesting?

I've read a little bit about gas cloud harvesting, and it interests me. Not necessarily the whole booster making process, but the gas cloud gathering itself. Is it profitable to harvest the gas clouds and just sell them flat out?

Isn't it just a case of working out how many units of gas you harvest per cycle and then multiplying that by the market value of the gas?

If you mean profitable compared to other activities, then it depends what other activities you're comparing it against.

Depends on what you harvest, some of the w-hole gas is insanly profitable but time spent scanning needs to be factored. I tend to treat gas clouds as a wind fall of anomalys. I keep a set of harvesters ready to go, but don't grind gas for cash.

Yes, you can make decent money harvesting gas and selling it. The profitability depends on the type of gas. I've made as much as about 10M ISK/h in highsec, but low/nullsec and w-space gasses sell for even more.

You can easily make over 100m per hour mining the right gas :)

If you mine the right gas in low/nullsec it can be very good

If you mind several gases in low/null then react them its even better

The problem is finding the various cyto gases as the only reliable sauce of them is in certain areas and no one will give those areas out to you for free

Do it in wormholes; as of me writing a "Barren Perimeter" ladar site (typically found in C1-C3), which contains 3000 C50 + 1500 C60 makes 26,040,000 ISK with a volume of 4500m³. If you have gas harvesting 5 and you're sitting in a battlecruiser with 5 T2 gas harvesters, you can suck 9k gas in one hour. THe Barren Perimeter is done in 30 minutes, which results in 52,080,000 ISK/hour.

The best ISK/h ratio is in the C4-C5s, a "Vast frontier" for example is only 2,400 m³ big and contains gas worth 94,500,000 ISK. You can run it in under 17 minutes. Good luck.

Are you sure about that? Because the gas in a Vast Frontier (C32) has a volume of 5m3 per unit so there is no way you are getting it in 17 minutes. A Vast has 5000 units of C32, but it is a total volume of 25,000m3. So you are looking at close to 2.75 hours to suck all of it up, for a net of 80-90mil.

So yes there are some types (C50 comes to mind) that are a good value and low volume. But many are higher volume.

BTW I just ran a Vast Frontier last night, so this isn't speculation.

Gas isn't as profitable as it once was.. but still Intrumental Core (those are in c6) can net you around 400kk. It takes about 1.5 hours to harvest it with 2 GCH5 chars.
