CCP releasing new areas starting in Rubicon?

Don't know how I stumbled across this, but according to this article Rubicon is the first expansion in a multi-expansion arc that will release components and implants that allow capsuleers to build their own jumpgates to new areas.

I haven't seen anything more about this. Anyone care to comment?

This was briefly mentioned at the end of the last fanfest; yes, we will be able to build stargates in the future.

This article was also officially posted on the CCP eve facebook page, so it's legit.

It won't be rubicon 1.0. This is further down the road.

That has been hinted at and commented on by CCP before and seems to be where the current theme of expansions/patches is headed.

There is 2 mapped areas in EVE that's not accessible...

So its entirety possible, just look very carefully at the map. 2 areas are there, just not accessible ~right now~

Stargates to connect to these areas...

To paraphrase CCP: "The jove will be introduced the day we finish working on the game". Most likely to be a new universe, since I very much doubt we'll get into Polaris space and Jove space is a big lore no-no.

Being purely speculative, when they first mentioned building stargates at fan-fest, I assumed it would be the technology to permanently build links between wormholes.

Though this article indicates otherwise.

Predicting gates that warp you from the north to the south and the east to the west (pac man style).

Will they have beacons / appear in overview like regular gates or need probing / bookmarks @ 15km again?

Who knows but the status quo is going to get a kick in the pants.

Also hahaha renters going to want their isk back after the first month of dying to 500 interceptors daily
