But don't worry, you aren't the first to trick yourself into thinking that it's all just for the sake of others. If it were, you'd come up with a thread like this one: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3872597

Too bad I did not start this thread, I started this one one that pre-dates the one you linked by 3 days. Blink

Anyone noticed - as I predicted - how CCP devs come copious to silly threads like this one but seem much less active when it's time to support an initiative to save real lives?

That makes me uncomfortable to say it kindly.

Yes, it did not take long for your prediction to come true! Ironic and sad, but I suppose this is a game, and CCP is not the same, and we might as well get used to this and stop complaining, and possibly stop maintaining funds for charity.

I already stopped maintaining the fund in the past, I got asked to resume it (just to restate again how the poster before you is wrong).

If CCP will do this campaign, having resumed the fund will prove to have been a positive choice in the long run.

The really sad thing is that CCP are totally useless in making decisions in a timely manner. By the time 3 or 4 months go by they will pop onto the forums and say everything seems fine now, no need to do anything.

The people who need help will be dead by the time CCP make a decision.

CCP have a pretty big problem with this. We all know their finances aren't bad, but they aren't that good either. So while for us donating PLEX or isk is an in game loss it doesn't affect our real lives.

For CCP every Plex donated is $15 or so off their revenue. So when 'we' donate $40,000 worth of Plex/isk to the charity in fact CCP lose $40,000 worth of money.

CCP can't turn around to us and say no we want the money for ourselves. if they did that the community would eat them alive. My guess is they will keep quiet and hope it blows over.

If I understand correctly this is not the case. Every Plex out there stands for 30 days of game time. That's a liability.
If for example 1000 Plex are donated, they are effectively losing the liability to deliver 30k days of game time, which in turn stands for (about) 15k Euros/Dollars.
In the past they did pay the European VAT and transfer/conversion costs, so it does cost them money if they choose to do so again, but not even nearly for the full amount donated.

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

Honestly, I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of people arbitrarily obligating CCP to "do something", then holding their feet to the fire when a response doesn't roll around fast enough.

CCP never said "Hey guys, you collect the PLEX, we'll do the donations". I can't go to my employer after the fact and say "Hey employer, we all worked overtime in volunteer, now you donate the money WHY AREN'T YOU DONATING FASTER!" Add in, there's likely a bunch of tax reasons CCP would have to consider, and it turns into a complex cluster.

This could have been done a lot better if the middleman in the situation already had a RL donation fund established. Collet X number of PLEX, donate X dollars, then apply PLEX to your own account/seek a reimbursement for CCP if they wanted to get involved.

For those who actually want to do something to help right now, a real cash donation to your choice of disaster relief charity will be much appreciated. For those of us who can't afford a cash donation, I recommend giving blood. One pint of blood can be turned into ~$180 or so, only costs you a little pain, and hey, you get juice and cookies!

BONUS: Anyone who donates cash to disaster relief/donates blood, I'll dedicate a miner gank in your honor. Don't even have to send proof, just let me know you did it. Seriously, can't get any better than that! (Carebears who don't want miner ganks dedicated can redeem their token as a "reverse gank", where I just warn a target that they could have been ganked)

I did not create PLEX for Good and before starting my original thread I explicitly created an in game ticket asking whether the charity initiatives were still on the radar.

At this point I have just done what my heart felt like it'd be a positive initiative, I have only used the tools provided and allowed and only after being confirmed they were still valid.

Past that it's out of my control, it's not my role to solve the accounting side of the whole deal.

It did not go like you say. My charity thread (linked in my signature) shows that I have asked CCP FIRST and they were OK.

If I get a blue OK and then also a separate game ticket also getting a CCP representative saying that yes the relief initiatives are still active, then I believe their word and act accordingly.

There was nothing "rained upon them" nor "obligating them". Had they said "no sorry we don't do this any more" then I'd have closed the charity for the second and last time.

It's not my fault that a scale 5 tornado hit Philippines "too soon" after those replies.

Let me ask a direct question then, because I'm kind of getting mixed signals. Did you contact CCP and say "CCP, I want to do PLEX for charity where I collect PLEX, and you exchange that for a real life donation to (disaster relief), for the current disaster in the Philippines."

Honestly, anything else, and all you've done is dump it in their lap, barring you getting a direct message saying "Yes, you are our official charity person for now until the foreseeable future"

Your link in blog just goes to a EVE 404.

If you go check the EvEpedia PLEX for Haiti chapter, it also shows my same link and it also goes to a 404 error. Cry

As for asking CCP, I posted a forum question which got replied. I also created multiple in game tickets. The representative who replied me with the most in detail has been CCP Falcon. However as I posted some pages ago, he forbad me to disclose anything told.

I'll let slip this out: if you don't see me burning the forum 24/7 it's because he told some positive stuff.

There were at least 3 threads, one made by me first, then this one and another. Mine got locked for reasons unknown (the official stance is that the dev who replied, missed it and replied to this) and the 3rd probably died.

So this one is the current battering ram we have left.

Got some "Help The Phillipines" propaganda from one of the "aid agencies" today.

Unsolicited, of course, it's just addressed to "box holder" as this is largely how such organizations work -- they pay the post office to spam entire areas with glossy flyers designed to separate folks from their hard earned coin.

So...NO... I am not sending $75 for a new GOAT, that will be purchased in some far off place for the local equivalent of $1 or E1... so that the CEO and his cronies can line their pockets with the other $74 under some obscure heading called "Administration Costs".

The bigger the "disaster", the bigger the scam.
