or everywhere...

Here's the ultimate, end-all, anti-gank fit. You can put it on any mining ship, takes 0pg/cpu, and it will prevent 99% of all ganks ever.

What you do is, pay attention to EVE. Pull the local tab off the chat window, stretch it out so you can see all the names, and watch it. Keep an eye on your overview too. This may mean you have to add more than just rocks to your overview tab.

Now, if you see any blinky red people in the local tab, or any ship within 2km of you, you proceed to dock up. Ungankable! Never fails, but for it to work, you have to be awake and alert.

or if you want a real anti-gank fit

[Skiff, MWD SKiff]
Mining Laser Upgrade II
Damage Control II

1MN Microwarpdrive II
Survey Scanner II
EM Ward Field II
Thermic Dissipation Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal I

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

love the skiff, it's fast, it tanks like a brick shithouse and it has enough ore hold to nom one of those big veld roids that other mioners can't be arsed flying to.

No. At zero speed, you're aligned “along” the null vector, which isn't a useful direction (what with not having any direction at all and all that). To be aligned to anything else, you need that vector to actually point somewhere, which means it needs a length, which means you're travelling at speed. Unfortunately, you can't be at speed in every direction at once, so you can't be aligned to everywhere.

1) I usually go blinky red AFTER I ganked someone but maybe your EVE client works differently Roll.

2) If you try to dock up when I'm within 2km of you, you're about 15 seconds too late and are going to die.

3) watching local and paying attention works wonders indeed.

4) you won't be paying attention all the time cuz of phones, door bells, explosive diarrhea, gf/wife/kid/neigbor/roommate/whatever-agro and other RL disturbances.

1) I'm referring to the real gankers who go -10 and love it, not the weekend warriors. Time wasted fixing sec status is time not ganking.

2) ANY ship within 2km of you. That includes the scout/scanner/warp-in.

3) Paying attention is an amazing way to avoid ganks.

4) If you can't attend to those while paying attention, then dock up.

Eve is the only game I know, where people demand the ability to not pay attention, yet still derive benefit. In CoD, I stop paying attention, I die. In WoW, I stop paying attention, my char stands around. Stop paying attention in tetris, the blocks stack up, game over. It's only natural that, if you stop paying attention to EVE, you get punished.

quite obviously if you have to pay that amount of attention to mining you'd be better off doing it in low/null/wh where it's more profitable or actually any other activity other than mining.

Which means it won't do you any good against 'weekend warriors'. Also, do -10's even blink in local channel without committing a crime?

That would work, it would require a lot of docking though, since you'll be docking up every time some other miner comes near you.

If you can manage that it's great. I for one often forget or think "what are the chances of me getting ganked in the next five minutes?" :P .

I made this thread as a one-off joke that I thought would be laughed into the ground, and not only is it taken seriously, but it's entertaining.

I get nervous if I'm mining in a belt and people are within 10 km of me. At that point it's time to A) Move, if I'm standing still, B) find a new place to mine if they follow me.

These days I tend to belt mine specifically for ores for storylines though.

It's also strangely really only a vaguely recent thing, up until a couple of years ago you rarely heard about suicide ganking barges.

Mining touched most of us when we started and that stupid rookie ship reminds us of it with a mining laser and one trit.

This. I still owe the miners of New Eden about 200 kills for wasting my time as a newbie. And hell, that was long enough ago I was doing it in a damned Scythe. Back before it was a useful ship.
