Are there any references to Lexx in EVE? P

Can we all have talking robot heads and organic phallic-shaped shower nozzles in our CQs?

CONCORD is totally based on Alliance from Firefly.

And the way we play is also based on Firefly.

I'm pretty sure the entirety of EVE is Firefly.

/me nods agreement.

Watching FF and B5 too , while playing... Nerdgasm. Thank god for Netflix.

I hope everyone sees or has seen this truth, at one time or another:

I can confirm that many of us early developers were Babylon 5 fans. But I think the influence is fairly minimal, the only thing I can say for certain was an influence was the relationship between Minmatar and Amarr, which is similar to Narn and Centauri.

There are quite a few of those loose relations in EVE. Bonus points for the one who can name the sci-fi series that inspired the name of our London Server (Tranquility) Twisted

Tranquility: Independent bitek habitat germinated by Crown Prince of Kulu, Michael Saldana? From Peter F. Hamiltons "Night's Dawn Trilogy"

This is correct. It is actually also based on the name of one of the alien ships in the Gap Cycle. The Gap Cycle is also the inspiration for a well known drug in the EVE-verse. Bonus bonus point if someone knows which Smile

I'll take a stab at Frentix.

Oh and you should have called the server Valisk rather than Tranquility - given the population of both Blink

Well the drug mentioned the most in the Gap Cycle was CAT which acted like an adrenalin shot, not sure which drug in Eve would be comparable.

Cowboy Bebop!

The transporters in the series are real close to the gallente transporters ingame.

Also the gates look very similar: http://youtu.be/dK_NnGywLrk?t=16m42s

so you know how the Culture novels have Orbitals, giant space habitats hosting billions of life forms shaped like a 3-million-km diameter ring?

plz let us build those in the forthcoming expansions!

Not sure about building them, but have one as an easter egg somewhere, as an hommage to the late Iain M. Banks.

That would be beyond awesome. Cool

I got alot of loose relatives too. Real sleaze bags...

Everyone is always repeating the mantra "Don't Trust Anyone" ad nauseum... If I can't trust the guys I play with, why bother playing with them at all? Fly Solo...

My god...just had another look at that B5 trailer posted.
Brings back so many great memories. Got chills on me skin.

Ever since B5 finished i have not been able to fill that sci fi gap it left. I say this and will stand by it, there hasn't been a sci fi show that can be compared to B5.
1) The depth of the characters and they way they grew on you.
2) The lore.
3) The dynamics behind the races.
4) The game of politics and betrayal.
5) Pluss the graphics for that time is pretty awesome.

I feel as if now there is more emphasis on the way a show looks rather than the story, which is a big shame. For the graphics can get boring after a while but it is the story that will keep you coming back for more.
As evidence of this i say(although not sci fi) 'Game of Thrones' and don't tell me your week wasn't ruined after reading/seeing the Red Wedding!

About the similarities, the whole sci fi scene has many recurring ideas and theories that will, whether you like it or not, come back and repeat. Obviously B5 being every nerds wet dream back then, has rubbed on to some of the Devs.

Great thread.

Battlestar galactica was a great series that broke the trend. The remake I mean. Went awry toward the end though bug I'm not sure you can ever end a series like that well.

The best thing about New Eden is how the only sentient life we know about is human. But the humans in New Eden are as different and diverse as any alien race could be. The Jove are genetically enhanced so much they hardly even look human, and so much they sealed their own doom. Sleepers are similar to Jove, but chose to live in a cyber world instead of the real one. Sansha are slaves, but in a way that even if you take their implants out that enslave them, they rather be enslaved then not. Angels, are pretty much the most badass mob ever. Guristas are the most badass pirates ever. Blood raiders take religious sacrifice to a whole new level. EoM are the craziest of terrorist you could be. Not to mention the empires, their history a lone is amazing and rich. The only other sentient life in New Eden are made by people, rogue drones. The best part of leaving other sentient life out of New Eden is that when CCP wants to end us all, they can just bring an alien race and wipe us all out haha.
