Why are Logistics and Industrial ships called that?

Logistics is the transport and storage of goods. What do the ships called 'logistics ships' do that in any way can classify them as 'logistics' ships? Surely if any ship should be called logistics, it would be the ships known as industrials.

Which brings us nicely to industrials. Industry is the *production* of goods, not the transportation. So who decided to call them industrials?

Now all we need is to go the full circle - introduce a shipclass dedicated to mobile manufacturing, give it manufacturing slots, a huge mineral bay, an 'office' bay for bpos, and a cargobay for finished products. And call the ship a 'Remote Repair Ship'.

Posting in a stealth "nerf shield tanking" thread.

Alternatively, OP, you could get lost and stop encouraging them to change everything to stupid names. We only just avoided "Spaceship Piloting".

While the name might not be chosen perfectly, one could argue that it is because they "transport" shield / capacitor / armor ^^

I refuse to accept remote reps from logi boats until this issue is addressed.

Very early in the EVE development there were actually plans for mobile manufacturing onboard industrial ships, hence the name.

Your definition of logistics is oversimplified, try looking it up and understanding what it actually entails and you will realize it is a perfectly valid name. Roll

I was dumb, so Instead of asking stupid questions I checked google, wikipedia came up as top link and they had a satisfying answer;

"Logistics is the management of the flow of resources between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet some requirements, for example, of customers or corporations. The resources managed in logistics can include physical items, such as food, materials, equipment, liquids, and staff, as well as abstract items, such as time, information, particles, and energy."

Emphasis is mine.

So logistics are the perfect name for the shiptype.

Industrial Transportation Ships, then. M'kayyyyy ?

I guess industrial trucks are not used to haul goods around our highways ? That's exactly where your non-logic leads.

And your idiotic mobile manufacturing ship is just that...idiotic. To work it must be undocked 24/7. Yeah right.

Jeebus, is this the way GD is gonna go all weekend ?

Lighten up, Francis.

Mobile Manufacturing Ship = idiotic? Okay...... tell that to wh dwellers, or nullsec invasion corps. To a bigger-than-you-would-expect bit of the population, that kind of ship would be a godsend.
