TL:DR

Give T1 weapons the same stats as T2 but with out the specialization.
So they would have same CPU requirements as T2, same power grid requirements as t2, same damage modifier as t2, same tracking as t2, ect...

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Congratulations, you pretty much just obsoleted meta 1-4 items!

Ask your self, when was the last time you fit a meta 1-2 weapon to your ship?
Then ask your self when was the last time you fit a t1 weapon vs a meta 4 weapon?

meta 4 would still have all there current benefits.

Not drunk, but tired. Almost the same.

how?
meta 4 has lower fitting requirements than t2 and lower activation costs than t2 all while having the same damage and charge capacity as t2.

Meta 0 should be the most basic version. It should have the lowest fitting cost, the lowest capacity, all of that stuff. Meta 0 should be the very basic, the very worst, the basis from which all other versions originate. It should also be useful when you've got just that extra bit of fittings left but not enough for T2 and using any version is better than nothing.

Meta 1 through 3 should be improved versions. All of them will be generally better than meta 0 in one area or another and easier to fit than meta 4. Sort of like mini-specializations. I think you can understand it.

That brings us around to meta 4, which should be on par with T2 in terms of base stats. It should be just as hard to fit, have the same cycle time, etc etc. Weapons would have the same damage modifier and active modules would have the same % effectiveness. The difference comes when you differentiate m4 from T2 by weapons having access to T2 ammo, other active T2 modules such as resists and boosters and reppers having a noticeably lower activation cost and T2 passive mods having lower fitting costs, on par with m0 but with m4 effectiveness.

Anyway, there you have it. m0 gets slightly buffed into some sort of general usefulness outside invention (maybe), m1-m3 are given a useful role as well and m4 isn't threatened.

You also need to consider skill point investment.

not reallly the same damage, the t2 turrets benefit from the specialization skill so can have 10% better base DPS when fully skilled.

Also need to consider the use of meta items in invention, not that I have ever done any.

Meta 1-2 blasters and arty are used for suicide ganking, otherwise meta 2 may be used for those modules where 3 and 4 are a bit expensive.

I see no reason to ever use meta 0 or 1.

Meta 0 used to drop... no more, making them more expensive, and more useless (except in T2 production).

My proposal: Meta 1-4 items do not drop from most rats - replace them with meta 0 items.

Meta 1-4 BPCs become a possible outcome of invention (the rate of T2 success stays the same, but for those times when invention of T2 failed, you have a chance of getting a meta 1-4 BPC).

And now t1 blueprints are worthless.
