In time you will learn that as in this forum, genpop eve goes about things mostly in the "who cares way", but they DO CARE.

Why someone will amass all the effort needed to gank someone that cant offer much, and if they do, often is less than the ganker has to lose, just to bother that person. It is sure someone that instead of not caring, is caring a lot to draw his real life feelings into game actions. Again, concept war on the rise.

"Any how", ganking has a rule of thumb: It doesnt matter how long you make your mining ship resist, when people are out to gank, they will gank and you will lose, unless they are bad on what they are doing and either barge or exhumer would survive anyway. The is no way you can use the fitting scheme of any mining ship to be reasonably resistant to ganking when well done.

What people usually do to avoid this bothers is to move.

Seek a system which is out of routes or large "any reason" hubs, like trade hubs, mission hubs, ice hubs. Preferably a system which has no reason to have people unless they are going there specifically. These systems usually have fixed people and soon you get your neighbours, so you can see anyone new and prepare accordingly. Avoid systems with no stations if alone and monoboxing.

But the most valuable advice someone can give you in New Eden is: DO NOT DO ANYTHING ALONE.

Simple fleet bonuses from a good fleet leader can make your ship more agile, give better defenses, and alert on danger.

Concept Warfare: Argument made by changing the concept the words used actually refeer to. Often used with: Stick Figure Argument - Red Herring - Ad Hominen - Reductio ad Absurdum

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The rules:
2. Be respectful toward others at all times.

The purpose of the EVE Online forums is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, and a venue for the discussion of EVE Online. Occasionally there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Forum users are expected to be courteous when disagreeing with others.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

The isk/hr vs tank debate is an old one but boils down to how often gankers are likely to attack and how much attention the miner is paying to the game. At a certain point the lost yield exceeds the cost of replacing the mining ship.
That said mining is rubbish isk/hr.
Mining is so dull that you do it semi afk whilst doing something else.
everything else in eve is more fun.
i strongly suggest trying other eve activities for a while and see how you like them.

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85
